As our residents prepare for a “Spooktacular” Halloween, the Shorewood Police Department is already getting ready for our 20th Annual Shop with a Cop!

For two decades, our department has helped bring holiday cheer to children in need from our local school districts. It’s a special morning our officers remember throughout their careers, and we hope the positive impact stays with the young people we meet, too.

Our flyer is attached. If you’re able to donate, all proceeds will go directly to Shorewood Shop with a Cop.

A big thank you to Shorewood HUGS for partnering with us again. It was wonderful seeing you at last weekend’s Trunk or Treat, and we truly appreciate your check presentation to Officer Smicker

On October 14th, Officers Bartulis and Zepeda, Detective Retzke, Deputy Chief Poulsen, and Chief Barten donned their pink shirts and headbands to participate in the Pink Heals Joliet Chapter's "First Responders vs. Minooka Junior High School Staff" basketball game! This fun event helped bring awareness and raise funds for an incredibly noteworthy cause. 🏀 👮
What an amazing event to be a part of! Thank you so much for the invitation. While we all made it through the game in one piece, we did decide that some of us should probably have practiced a little more!

Congratulations to Officer Dan Douherty and his wife Nikki, on completing the 2026 Chicago Marathon!

As multiple-time finishers of the Chicago Marathon, their completion of this race is a true testament to their dedication to training. Even more inspiring is their commitment to family, as they ran this event in honor of loved ones lost.

Great job, Dan and Nikki! Your SPD family is incredibly proud of you both!

Today, we celebrate Officer Dan Dougherty, who will once again be running the Chicago Marathon in honor of his parents, David and Barbara Dougherty; Mr. Curt Rotkovich; and our very own Officer Jeff Calafos, all of whom were taken too soon in their battles with cancer. 💚

Dan continues to honor their memories by raising awareness and supporting those affected by cancer. 🏅🎗️

Dan is in “select” company as a multi-marathon finisher. We are proud of him and the meaning behind his run. 🏁

🚨 FOUND PET 🚨

Did you lose a tiny flying marsupial? 🐾

One of our officers was called to assist with a rather unusual four-legged visitor. The problem? He had absolutely no idea what he was looking at.

After figuring out what it was, now we have to figure out who it belongs to.

If this little glider belongs to you (or you know who he belongs to), please contact the Shorewood Police Department at 815-725-1460, or our after hours 815-725-4636.
