Today, a Blue Star Memorial is being installed in our community!
The blue star comes from the military service flag tradition, where families display a blue star to represent a loved one serving in the Armed Forces.
Blue Star Memorials are typically placed along highways, in parks, at veterans memorials, and in public gardens.
Unlike a Gold Star Memorial, which specifically honors families who have lost a loved one in military service, a Blue Star Memorial honors all who serve or have served, not just those who died.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ A beautiful addition to our community and a meaningful tribute to all who have worn the uniform.

𝗒𝗨π—₯ π—‘π—˜π—ͺ 𝗗𝗔𝗩 𝗩𝗔𝗑 𝗛𝗔𝗦 𝗔π—₯π—₯π—œπ—©π—˜π——!

Yesterday was an exciting day for our office and area veterans as our brand-new 2026 Ford Explorer was delivered all the way from Kentucky by Jamie Jakub - Adjutant / CEO, DAV Department of Nebraska!

Our previous Ford Explorer made more than 800 trips, transporting local veterans to and from their VA appointments in Cheyenne. That's 800+ trips helping ensure that our nations heroes have reliable transportation to the care that they earned. And a whole lot of miles driven by some pretty incredible volunteer drivers along the way.

Our new Explorer will officially hit the road as soon as the new license plates arrive! We are excited to put many more miles on it serving veterans throughout our area.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of the DAV and everyone who helps make this transportation program possible. The purchase of this vehicle would not have been possible without the local donations amounting to $22,928 and the remainder covered by National DAV.

And with a new vehicle, we still need drivers! We are always looking for dependable volunteer DAV drivers to help transport veterans to their VA appointments. The appointments are in the mornings of Tuesday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's and does not go if someone has not requested a ride. If you have some time to give and would like a meaningful way to serve the veterans in our community, we would love to talk with you.

πŸ“ž Contact the Cheyenne County Veterans Service Office for information about becoming a volunteer driver.
