Last night, our firefighters participated in a realistic training exercise involving a simulated multi-vehicle accident with a vehicle fire, an overturned vehicle, and trapped occupants.

Crews worked together to manage multiple challenges simultaneously, including incident command, scene safety, fire suppression, vehicle stabilization, extrication, and patient care.

Following the initial scenario, firefighters continued with hands-on training, focusing on vehicle stabilization and extrication techniques to further develop their skills and experience.

A special thank you to Affordable Towing for providing the vehicles used during this training. Support from local businesses helps make these valuable hands-on training opportunities possible.

Training like this provides valuable opportunities for our firefighters to strengthen teamwork, improve decision-making, and prepare for the complex emergencies they may encounter in real-life situations.

We are proud of the dedication our volunteer firefighters continue to show by giving up their personal time to train and better serve our community.

The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department invites you to join us at the fire station for an evening focused on keeping our homes, families, and neighbors safe. We'll take a deeper look at important fire and life-safety topics, answer questions, and share practical information you can take home and put to use. Have you ever thought about joining the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department? This is also a great opportunity to stop by, meet some of our members, learn what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter, and ask questions you may have about joining our team. And because good conversations are even better over food, we'll be serving hamburgers and chips to everyone who attends. We hope to see you at the fire station!

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department is extremely grateful to have recently been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Jack Lewis Safety Fund to assist with the purchase of new firefighter protective equipment.

This funding allowed our department to purchase 10 complete sets of structural firefighting gear, with each set including a new helmet, turnout coat, turnout pants, and boots.

Firefighting gear doesn’t last forever. NFPA standards establish a maximum 10-year service life for structural firefighting gear, and depending on its condition and use, some gear may need to be replaced even sooner. This grant allows us to replace gear that has reached or is approaching the end of its service life and helps ensure our firefighters have the protective equipment they need when responding to emergencies.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Jack Lewis Safety Fund for their generous support of our department and our firefighters. This investment directly improves the safety of the men and women who serve Sidney and the surrounding area.

Thank you for investing in those who serve our community!

🔥 Fire Prevention Week visits are underway! 🚒

Thank you to Grace Gardens Preschool for inviting the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department to visit and talk with the children about fire safety and prevention.

We always enjoy getting out into our community, meeting the kids, and helping them learn ways to stay safe in a fire emergency.
