Simms VFD ESD #5

We are under a burn ban for the next 7 days. Please no outdoor burning during this time. Don’t be the person that burns down your neighbors hay meadow or house! Fire conditions are extreme right now. All it takes is one gust of wind.

This was a busy weekend for our department.

We started the weekend by assisting with a LifeNet Air landing to transport a patient experiencing a stroke. As the temperatures climbed, we responded to two grass fires yesterday, including a 102-acre wildfire in a pine timber stand. This incident has been named the Chicken Ranch Road Fire and has been officially documented in the Texas A&M Forest Service wildfire database.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our members who spent much of their weekend away from their families to protect the citizens of our community. Your dedication and sacrifice do not go unnoticed.

We also want to thank the Texas A&M Forest Service for their mutual aid assistance throughout the weekend. We are proud to stand alongside you in protecting our communities and serving the people of our region

Tonight’s training at Simms Volunteer Fire Department focused on building essential firefighting skills with our newest probationary firefighters.

Training included the 2-minute drill, pumper operations, advancing hose lines, and properly setting/raising ladders for multi-story window access and roof operations.

We have a dedicated team that is committed to learning, improving, and serving our community. We couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and dedication these firefighters continue to demonstrate.

If you’ve ever considered serving your community, we’d love for you to join us. There truly is a place for everyone at Simms VFD, and every role makes a difference. Contact us!

🚒 A new member alert has been issued as we onboard some new trainees. Tonight's training session effectively covered our extrication equipment, including the new airbag system that was added to our arsenal thanks to a grant. This preparatory meeting sets the stage for a full-scale hands-on extrication class to be conducted over the next couple of weeks. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the men and women of this department who not only donate their precious time but also put their lives at risk to protect their neighbors. It is a privilege to work alongside such skilled and dedicated personnel. 🚒
