🇺🇸 HONORING 25 YEARS — WE WILL NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸

Tonight, several local fire departments came together at D.H. Conley High School’s football game to honor the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

🚒 Simpson Fire Department – Station 32
🚒 Eastern Pines Fire Department – Station 34
🚒 Black Jack Fire Department – Station 35

With fire apparatus lined along the field and the American flag flying high from the ladder truck, we paused to remember the 2,977 lives lost on 9/11, including the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and countless others who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and service are still remembered. It was an honor to stand alongside our neighboring departments and our community as we paid tribute to all those we lost and to the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — Never Forget.
🚒 343 Firefighters. Forever Remembered.

MR Paul Majette was one of our charter members and helped us get to where we are today
He always helped with our fund raisers , and help anyway he could!
He gave me this paddle (that I will cherish forever) to stir our chicken sauce . And keep the tradition going !!!
Rest easy Mr Paul we love you and will miss you!

Countywide Burn Ban Issued for Pitt
Ban prohibits the creation of all outdoor open burning activities

PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Due to recent weather patterns affecting Pitt County, local Emergency Management officials in conjunction with the North Carolina Forest Service have issued a countywide burning ban effective at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

The burning ban prohibits the creation of any outdoor open burning for activities such as bonfires, yard vegetation and land clearing.

All previously issued burn permits have been cancelled.

It is spring wildfire season in North Carolina, and current conditions have increased risks associated with outside burning in Pitt County. The current weather patterns of high winds and low humidity have resulted in extremely dry conditions of dormant vegetation, which increases the risk of easier fire ignition of material such as leaves, grass, trees and plants.

Individuals that violate the burning ban will be required to extinguish the fire and could be subject to legal action.

The burning ban will remain in effect until such time that weather conditions reduce the increased threat of fire.

For more information, contact Pitt County Emergency Management at 252-902-3950.

Pitt County’s Mission is to enhance the community’s well-being with care, respect and efficiency. Learn more: www.PittCountyNC.gov

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.
