Tonight, the Simsbury Republican Town Committee unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Cheri Cook, a longtime SRTC member and a truly dedicated servant to the Town of Simsbury.

Cheri has given so much of herself to our committee and our community over the years—her time, energy, friendship, and unwavering commitment. She has been a valued colleague and a dear friend to so many of us, and her impact on our committee will be felt for years to come.

Tonight was an opportunity to say something that can never be said enough: 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢. Thank you for all you have done, all you have given, and for the countless memories and friendships you’ve created along the way.

🏡🤝A GRAND BARGAIN FOR HOUSING AND LOCAL CONTROL: Today, I set forth a comprehensive plan to improve housing affordability and protect local control of zoning & decision making.

My three-pronged plan is vital in communities like Simsbury and others, where they are facing a series of proposed developments, including an 8-30g development over 600 units, without any local approval or buy-in.

After decades of state government driving up the cost of housing and overriding local policy, we need a change in direction.

➡️ REDUCE & CAP PROPERTY TAXES: Roll back unfunded mandates on municipalities; Reform tax exemptions for large solar arrays, universities, and hospital systems; Create predictable funding streams for towns & cities that increase with costs

➡️REDUCE BUILDING COSTS & EXPAND SUPPLY: Eliminate licensing fees, streamline licensing, and lift the cap on apprenticeships; Reduce needless red tape in building codes; Streamline permitting processes; Encourage small-scale housing development

➡️PROTECT LOCAL CONTROL: Eliminate or roll back 8-30g and H.B. 8002 supported by Gov. Lamont; Place size limits on 8-30g developments; Allow for “Housing Growth Zones” to earn 8-30g relief

With the right leadership, we can reach a grand bargain in our state that promotes responsible housing growth that’s focused on affordability and prioritizes local zoning and decision making.

SIMSBURY, CT — Republican nominee for governor Senator Ryan Fazio will hold a press conference on Thursday, August 20th at a public access park in Simsbury adjacent to the site of a proposed 669-unit housing development. The press conference comes as Simsbury residents and officials are navigating onerous state statutes related to development.
