🚨 SCAM ALERT: FAKE ARREST WARRANT / BOND PAYMENT SCAM 🚨
The Bern Township Police Department wants residents to be aware of a convincing scam involving fake federal arrest warrants and demands for immediate payment.
In this scam, the victim may receive a phone call from someone claiming to be with law enforcement, the courts, or another government agency. The caller tells the victim there is a warrant for their arrest and that they must immediately pay a bond or fine to avoid being taken into custody.
As the attached photos show, these scams can look very convincing. Scammers may provide:
• Official-looking arrest warrants or court documents
• Government seals, agency names, and legal terminology
• Instructions to use Bitcoin or cryptocurrency kiosks
• Requests for payment through Cash App or similar services
• Threats of immediate arrest if payment is not made
• Instructions to remain on the phone while making payment
• Claims that the matter is “confidential” and cannot be discussed with anyone
In this incident, the victim was instructed to send multiple payments through Cash App as part of the supposed bond process.
⚠️ These are major warning signs of a scam.
Law enforcement agencies and courts will not call you and demand payment through Cash App, Bitcoin, cryptocurrency kiosks, gift cards, or similar methods to prevent your arrest.
Scammers create fear and urgency so victims act before they have time to verify what they are being told.
If you receive a call like this:
STOP. Do not send money. Do not provide personal or banking information. Hang up and independently contact the agency or court the caller claims to represent.
Do not use a phone number provided by the caller. Look up the agency’s official number yourself.
Please share this information with family and friends.
When in doubt, call your local police department before sending any money.
