A group of American researchers believes it may be days away from finding what remains of the missing plane of legendary aviator Amelia Earhart off a remote island in the South Pacific.

Members of the expedition are searching a lagoon off the coast of Nikumaroro. They are focused on inspecting what is known as the Taraia Object, a visual anomaly that has been visible in aerial photos dating back to 1938 but was first noticed in satellite imagery in 2020. That satellite imagery is what inspired the new expedition.

Incredible tribute. I remember, I will never forget. I now understand the people who said "I remember what I was doing when I heard JFK died". I was a cop, sleeping after a nightshift, my babies were 1, 1, 7, and 12..life was so different. I can only imagine what my job would have been like there that day..25 years ago..

Congratulations to my Chief Deputy, Jeff Gutzmer who successfully passed his certification for the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation allowing him to add D-ABMDI behind his name as a diplomat! This test is challenging but rewarding and that means he joins me in holding the certification. I have also started the process for my 3rd staff member, my Deputy Medical Examiner, Shana. Soon, we will be one of the few departments who are all certified. I hold alot of value in training and education for the role we play within the county.
It is incredibly important to me that we are knowledgeable and competent with out skill set.

Congrats again, Jeff. Glad to have you in our ranks!
