Our thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones and everyone affected by yesterday’s tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend. We extend our deepest condolences to those grieving and our support to the students, families, educators and staff facing the days ahead.

We are also thinking of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS crews, dispatchers and hospital teams who responded and provided care. These are colleagues and friends we work alongside regularly, and we care deeply about their well-being as they process what they experienced.

To everyone affected: your neighbors in Cloverdale are thinking of you.

Cloverdale Fire was dispatched to a brush fire this morning at 6:03 a.m. Crews arrived to find a slow-moving grass fire in the backyard of a home. The fire burned approximately one-tenth of an acre and was quickly brought under control.

The cause was an escaped debris burn pile from the previous day.

Please make sure your debris piles are fully extinguished and cold before leaving them unattended. A pile that appears to be out can still hold heat and reignite. Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

Fire Restrictions Update

With cooler fall weather, increased moisture and changing seasonal conditions, fire restrictions are being reduced across much of Central Oregon.

On public lands: Stage 1 Public Use Fire Restrictions ended at 12:01 a.m. Friday, September 25, on the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, Crooked River National Grassland and Prineville District BLM lands. Some restrictions remain in specific areas, including Deschutes National Forest wilderness areas and certain BLM locations.

On ODF-protected lands: The Oregon Department of Forestry’s Central Oregon District will terminate Regulated Use restrictions at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, September 26.

The Central Oregon Fire Danger Level has also been lowered to MODERATE, effective September 23.

While conditions have improved, vegetation can still burn. Continue to use caution with campfires, equipment and other activities that can produce sparks or heat, and always check the restrictions for the specific land where you are recreating.

Cloverdale Fire Responds to Highway 20 Crash

Yesterday, Cloverdale Fire responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 20 and Cloverdale Road.

At the time of the crash, a Cloverdale Fire crew was outside Station 602 conducting training and witnessed the collision. The crew immediately ran to the scene to assess the occupants, reaching the vehicles in approximately 30 seconds.

Firefighters found one patient with critical injuries and immediately began patient care. The patient was transported to the hospital for further care by Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District ambulance. A second patient was evaluated at the scene and was not transported.

Being in the right place at the right time allowed our crew to begin assessment and care almost immediately after the crash.

Thank you to Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District, Oregon State Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and ODOT for their response and assistance at the scene.
