Smiley, also known as Smiley Lake, is at the intersection of U.S. It was established in the early 1870s, when trader and sheepherder John Smiley

Highway 87 and Farm Roads 3234 and 108, twenty-five miles south of Gonzales in southwestern Gonzales county.

Early this month we were notified by our credit card processor that they are closing and will no longer be processing credit card payments. We have applied with another company and are currently awaiting a response. The final day for Transaction Activity will be: 11/5/2026.

With this information there maybe a few days before the new processor comes on line. You can still make payments via check or money order. Once the new processor is on line I will do what I can to notify everyone.

Residents of Smiley,

I had a brief sit down with NSCISD Superintendent Friday and he asked me to pass along the flyers about the VATRE that you will see on the ballot. We understand that the ballot will tell you that this is a tax increase but it is not. What is going to happen is that they are going to reallocate $0.11 from the I&S accounts to the M&O accounts. Please see the flyers for additonal infromation.

Residents of Smiley. We have a council person who is stepping down from their position. The council will accept their letter of resignation at the next council meeting.

IF you are interested in filling this person's seat please submit a letter to city hall explaining why you should be selected to fill this seat. IF you are picked you will fill this seat until the May 2027 which is when the person stepping down term ends.

To be eligible you MUST be a resident of Smiley. You can drop your letter off with the city secretary during normal buisness hours, place it in the drop box or submit via email at [email protected].

City Hall will be closed Friday 10/9/26, and Monday 10/12/2026. We will reopen Tuesday 10/13/2026 at 8am to 12pm.

We were just informed that AEP will be turning of the power to the majority of the city. If you have concerns about how long the power is going to be out for or when it will return you will need to contact AEP.

Due to the power being shut off City Hall will be closed for the rest of the day.

The Gonzales County Senior Citizens Association, Inc. offers a Home Delivered Meal Program, providing five meals per week to approved participants throughout Gonzales County, including Gonzales, Smiley, Nixon, Leesville, Waelder, Harwood and surrounding areas.

📞 To apply, call 210-438-6208. Applications can be completed over the phone.

For questions about the meal program, call the Gonzales County Senior Citizens Association at 830-672-7014.
