When minutes matter, readiness matters. Smith County Memorial Hospital has once again earned its Level IV Trauma Center designation, reflecting the preparation, teamwork and commitment required to provide timely, high-quality trauma care.

This achievement takes a team. We’re especially grateful for the behind-the-scenes leadership of Laura Kingsbury, Trauma Coordinator; Dr. Justin Overmiller, Trauma Medical Director; Keith Wangerin, EMS Director; Lakin Lyon, Chief Nursing Officer; and Sarah Ragsdale, CEO, along with our medical staff, ER providers and nurses, ancillary departments and EMS partners.

As Laura shared, “Working in a rural ER is personal. We know the faces that come through our doors, and many times we know the families standing at the bedside.”

Our Level IV designation reflects the people, equipment, protocols and partnerships needed to evaluate, stabilize and coordinate care when every minute counts. Most importantly, it gives our community confidence that quality trauma care is ready when needed.

We’re proud of this team and grateful for the many hands that make this level of care possible.

Large portion of the region will have moderate to high chances for total rain amounts of at least 3 inches. The heavy rain, combined with lingering damp soil from last week's rain, could lead to areas of flooding. Rain will be most widespread/persistent Tuesday evening into Thursday morning.
