Congratulations, to our Johnston County Animal Services Director, Chad Massengill, on receiving the NCARCA Career Service Award!

Since joining the team on March 3, 2017, Chad has demonstrated a commitment to animal care, public safety, and humane treatment. This special recognition from the North Carolina Animal & Rabies Control Association (NCARCA) honors his years of professional service, compassion, and dedication to the community.

Secretly nominated by his own staff, Chad’s award is a testament to the impact he makes every day. One staff member who nominated Chad shared these words: “Chad goes above and beyond to help the animals, citizens, community, many departments in our county and across North Carolina and his staff. He never says no when his help is needed.”

The Career Service Award recognizes individuals whose commitment to serving others leaves a lasting impression, and Chad is a great example of that dedication.

Congratulations, Chad! Your hard work, and compassionate heart do not go unnoticed.

Say hi to Reggie, the speedy sonic!

Reggie is full of energy but already knows how to sit! He’s very food motivated, so we think he has plenty more tricks to learn. During his Halloween photo shoot, he tolerated his Sonic costume pretty well, especially when he was getting head pets.

The hoodie, however, was another story! He’d much rather be next to the photographer getting attention than sitting still for pictures with a hat on his head. Reggie is a playful, loving dog who’s ready to find his forever home.

Reggie has been at the shelter for 63 days and counting, which means his adoption fee is waived for the entire month of October!

- As part of our October adoption event, animals that have been here for 30 days or longer have all their adoption fees waived! When you visit our website, look for the “30+ Days” icon on an animal’s photo to see which pets have their adoption fees waived.

Meet Louie! 🌭

This sweet hotdog was the star of our first Halloween costume try-on which Louie tolerated like a champ! But, instead of fully embracing his role, he was much more interested in exploring and getting pets from everyone around him. He did keep slipping out of the costume, so we decided to see if he preferred being a bee instead... Turns out, Louie didn't mind rocking his second look!

Through it all, Louie stayed very sweet and friendly, showing us that he's happy to go with the flow as long as he gets some love and attention. Costumes may not be his favorite thing, but finding his forever home where he can explore, play, and get plenty of attention certainly is!

- Reminder that for the month of October, animals that have been here for 30 days or longer have all their adoption fees waived! When you visit our website, look for the “30+ Days” icon on an animal’s photo to see which pets have their adoption fees waived.

Meet Diesel!

Don’t let his size fool you... Diesel is a gentle giant with a very sweet personality. He loves to play, enjoys spending time with people, and walks great on a leash. While he may look big and tough, Diesel is really just a big softie looking for someone to call his own.

Meet Donner!

This smiley boy loves to play, especially when there’s a toy involved! He’ll happily run around and have some fun, but he’s also quick to wear himself out and settle down for a relaxing break.

Donner is food motivated, which made teaching him “sit” fairly simple. With that motivation, we think he’ll be ready to learn even more! He also walks great on a leash and loves meeting new people.
