Got to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s Birthday this week with fellow Navy Veteran and good friend Congressman Nick LaLota ... Proud to have served, proud of our Navy, and always grateful to the men and women who answer the call.
To all of my fellow Veterans and their families: thank you for your service, sacrifice and commitment to our country.

As the sun sets and Yom Kippur begins, I want to personally wish my Jewish friends, neighbors and families throughout Smithtown a peaceful and meaningful observance.

Yom Kippur is a time for reflection, forgiveness and renewal, and I hope this sacred day brings comfort, strength and peace to you and your loved ones.

From my family to yours, may you have an easy and meaningful fast. G’mar Chatima Tova — may you be sealed for a good year.

A tremendous thank you to the American Red Cross – Long Island, Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, our Smithtown Department of Public Safety, and the dedicated members of the Hauppauge, Nesconset and Smithtown Fire Departments for making yesterday’s smoke detector installation day such a success.

Working together, volunteer teams of trained professionals visited more than 100 homes throughout Smithtown, installing life-saving smoke alarms and helping residents make their homes safer.

This is community service at its very best — neighbors, first responders and volunteers working side by side to protect families and potentially save lives.

A special thank you as well to our local sponsor, Bulovas Restorations, for generously providing breakfast and lunch for the entire team of volunteers. Their support helped keep everyone fueled throughout a busy and incredibly worthwhile day of service.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time and expertise to make this important initiative possible. Thank you for always answering the call to keep Smithtown safe.

It was an honor yesterday to join the incredible team at Brightway Living & Learning to recognize Direct Support Professional Recognition Week and present a Town proclamation honoring the men and women whose compassion and dedication make such a profound difference every single day.

Direct Support Professionals are so much more than a job title. They are caregivers, advocates, teachers, mentors, drivers, coaches—and often trusted friends. They help individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities build independence, participate in their communities and live with greater dignity and opportunity. Brightway itself supports more than 1,600 children and adults across Long Island.

These professionals deserve our gratitude, our respect and greater recognition for the extraordinary work they do.

I was proud to proclaim this week Direct Support Professional Recognition Week in the Town of Smithtown and, most importantly, to personally thank the remarkable DSPs at Brightway for the heart they bring to their work and to the people and families who depend on them.

To every DSP: thank you for choosing a career of service, compassion and purpose. Smithtown is grateful for you.

What an incredible day in Smithtown!

On Tuesday, I was deeply honored to speak on behalf of the Town of Smithtown as we officially broke ground on the new Puppy Development & Visitor Center for the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs.

I was joined by some truly inspiring program graduates, volunteers, donors, community partners and fellow dignitaries, along with the talented team at Tritec, which will bring this beautiful new facility to life—and, of course, a few very important four-legged guests.

I even got to catch up with my old buddy Sully, who clearly still believes he runs the place around his old stomping grounds… and after everything he’s accomplished, I think he’s earned that right. No bones about it! 🐾

I also had the pleasure of meeting a few of their famous Puppies With a Purpose, including Jet, Cheddar and Howie—future life-changers already building quite the fan base.

But behind all of the puppy fun is an incredibly important mission.

This new facility will allow the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs to expand their ability to raise, train and place guide and service dogs with people with disabilities, including our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members and first responders. Their services are provided at no cost to the people they serve.

There was a time when these remarkable organizations were being courted by major cities across the country. It took tremendous cooperation and support at the Town, County and State levels to help make their continued growth here possible. That is why it means so much that America’s VetDogs and the Guide Dog Foundation chose to invest in the community they have called home for generations.

Smithtown has deep ties to our veterans and first responders, and I cannot think of a more fitting home for a mission devoted to giving greater independence, confidence and quality of life to those who have served and to people who are blind or have low vision.

This groundbreaking represents so much more than a new building. It means more puppies trained, more people served and more lives changed right here in Smithtown.

Congratulations to everyone at the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs on this exciting new chapter.

And guys… I already can’t wait to come back and cut that ribbon!

It was an incredible honor to be part of yesterday’s beautiful Naming Ceremony at the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park, where the granite walls were once again engraved with the names of heroes who have passed away from 9/11-related illnesses.

This year alone, more than 345 names were added to the memorial — each one honoring a 9/11 responder who has since lost their life to an illness connected to their service in the aftermath of the attacks.

But these are not just names carved into stone.

They are the brave men and women who answered the call during our nation’s darkest hours. Each name represents a family who lost someone they loved, a life of service and sacrifice, and a story that deserves to be remembered for generations.

As we vow to never forget the 2,977 innocent lives taken from us on September 11, 2001, we must also never forget those who spent the days, months and even years that followed digging through the rubble at Ground Zero — searching for their brothers and sisters, hoping to bring answers and some measure of closure to families they had never even met.

They went because people needed them.

They did not know then what that service would ultimately cost them. So many sacrificed the chance to live long and healthy lives because of what they were exposed to in those days and months. And if you ask many of them, they will tell you they would have gone anyway.

That is courage. That is service. That is sacrifice.

We owe it to them — and to their families — to honor them always, speak their names and make certain their sacrifice is never forgotten.

My deepest gratitude to the committee behind the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park, and to the countless organizations, advocates and individuals who continue fighting every day to ensure that anyone suffering from a 9/11-related illness has access to the healthcare, resources and support they deserve.

Their fight did not end when the smoke cleared. It continued through years of illness, pain and loss — and for too many families, it ended in heartbreak.

Now, it is our turn to stand with them.

We must ensure that every responder receives the healthcare, support and dignity they earned through their service — and that every family knows their loved one’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We will speak their names. We will carry their stories. We will honor their courage for generations to come.

Because “never forget” is not just a promise. It is our responsibility — and we will never forget any of them.

It was an honor to stand with our community at the Town of Smithtown’s September 11th Remembrance Ceremony and pay tribute to the 53 Smithtown souls who were murdered on September 11, 2001, along with the first responders, survivors and families whose lives were forever changed.

Most importantly, I want to thank the families of our 53 neighbors for allowing us the privilege of honoring their loved ones each year. Their names, their stories and the lives they lived will always remain part of the fabric of this community.

My sincere gratitude to Rabbi Mendel Teldon and Pastor Zarlengo for offering such beautiful and meaningful words of faith, comfort and remembrance, and to our special guest speaker, retired NYPD Captain Jimmy Albrecht, for sharing such a powerful and moving message.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to stand together in remembrance, especially our partners at the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce, Nissequogue Fire Department, St James Fire Department, Smithtown Fire Department and Smithtown Department of Public Safety.

A very special thank you to Smithtown Harbormaster Michael Grayson, a September 11th first responder, whose dedication and personal commitment help us organize this ceremony year after year. His service to our community—and to this important tradition of remembrance—means more than words can express.

To every family, first responder, veteran, neighbor and friend who stood with us: thank you for helping Smithtown keep this sacred promise alive.
We remember their lives. We honor their sacrifice. And we will never forget.

Yesterday, Kings Park came together to honor one of its beloved sons, FDNY Firefighter and 9/11 First Responder Christopher Joseph Revere, with the dedication of a street that will forever bear his name.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Revere family, Chris’ fellow firefighters, friends, neighbors, teammates and community members for such a meaningful tribute. The incredible turnout was a powerful reflection of the love and respect Chris earned throughout a life defined by family, friendship, courage, service and sacrifice.

We extend a very special thank you to the FDNY Foundation Ceremonial Unit, whose Color Guard, attention to detail and extraordinary partnership helped make today’s ceremony a fitting and unforgettable tribute. Their team truly went above and beyond to help our Town honor one of New York’s Bravest.

We are also deeply grateful to the members of FDNY Engine 289 – the Corona Tigers, FDNY Ladder 166, Engine 318, Coney Island, the Kings Park Fire Department, Deacon John Trodden, fellow elected officials and everyone who helped make this dedication possible.

From this day forward, everyone who passes FDNY Firefighter Christopher Joseph Revere’s street sign will be reminded of the man behind the name—a firefighter who answered the call, a 9/11 First Responder who served when our nation needed him most, and a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor whose legacy will forever remain part of Kings Park.

May his name always be spoken. May his service always be remembered.
