As wildland season comes to an end (hopefully!), we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the season and recognize the hard work and dedication of our crews.
This season, Grant County Fire District 7 responded to 93 wildland-related incidents within our district. With mutual aid responses included, that number increased to 116 incidents. Throughout the season, our volunteers and career staff spent countless hours on the fire line, working suppression and mop-up efforts on numerous large, multi-day fires.
Our efforts also extended beyond Grant County, with District 7 sending crews to four different state mobilizations. The Little Giant Fire was our longest mobilization of the season, with our crew spending 28 consecutive days on the fire.
As we look back on an extensive and demanding wildland season, we want to recognize the people who helped make our response efforts possible.
We extend a sincere thank-you to our mutual aid partners who stood alongside us throughout the season. In rural communities, especially those served by primarily volunteer fire departments, mutual aid is vital to successful incident outcomes. We are grateful for the departments and firefighters who answered the call and worked alongside our crews.
We’d also like to thank the community members and local businesses who supported our firefighters by providing water, snacks, and other supplies during incidents. Those acts of kindness and generosity mean a great deal to our crews, especially during long and demanding assignments.
Wildland season requires a tremendous amount of time, effort, and sacrifice from everyone involved. To our firefighters, mutual aid partners, community members, and local businesses: thank you for your continued dedication and support. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
