Members of Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club attended the Fire Summit during San Diego Climate Week, held at The Nat (San Diego Natural History Museum)!
The evening opened with a land acknowledgement honoring the Kumeyaay, Luiseño/Payómkawichum, Cahuilla, and Cupeño/Kuupangaxwichem peoples, and we were inspired by speakers and panelists from tribal fire leadership, climate science, SDSU, SDG&E, and The Nat. Short films, including Burned Into Memory, Message to Governor, Islands of Green, and Maathaaw, brought home how wildfire shapes our region, and the Community Fire Safe Councils map showed how neighbors across San Diego County are organizing to protect their communities.
It was also great to see young leaders from Rise & Beyond in the room. With 200+ events across the region October 1-8, San Diego Climate Week showed what’s possible when our community comes together.
