Timber Fire Current Situation:
Helicopters continued water drops near Double Cone on Tuesday, with no new smoke seen there by the end of the day.
Infrared flights detected some increased heat in steep drainages on the west side of the fire, well within control lines,
and helicopters will continue working the area as needed. A lookout will be in place Wednesday to watch for new smoke
or heat near Double Cone, and a reconnaissance flight is scheduled. Helicopters continue to fly crews to Hopkins Ridge,
where repair work is expected to take about one more day.
Repair work continues around the fire. Crews on the east side are repairing fencing and grading roads, while dozer line
repair is complete on the south side. Coast Ridge Road is being graded as crews work north along the west side. Repair
work is complete on the north side, where heavy equipment is expected to finish moving out Wednesday. Crews
continue to patrol Highway 1 and assist with traffic control as heavy equipment is moved.
Weather:
Tuesday’s highs reached the upper 80s to mid-90s Fahrenheit, with relative humidity near 18% across much of the fire.
The Arroyo Seco area reached 103 degrees Fahrenheit, with humidity near 10%. The heat advisory has been extended
through 10 p.m. Thursday for elevations above 1,000 feet, and overnight humidity recovery remains poor. The chance of
new fire starts remains high, and personnel remain alert. A cooling trend is expected to begin Friday.
Evacuations:
As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, evacuation orders remain in effect for four Timber Fire zones: MRY‑D082,
MRY‑F015‑B, MRY‑F015‑C and MRY‑F023‑B. All other evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.
Highway 1 remains open. Please use caution, as crews and heavy equipment will be entering and exiting traffic.
Recreational access to public lands is open at all parks west of Highway 1 and south of the Plaskett Fire. The rest of the
Monterey Ranger District of Los Padres National Forest remains closed to the public, with specified exceptions.
