⏰ Reminder 🔥
Turn your clocks back but also change your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries 🔋
Pictured below is an incident we responded to last week where smoke detectors were present but not functioning due to age and no batteries. The homeowner woke up suddenly and found the small fire at the bottom of the stairs which was the primary exit for all the bedrooms upstairs.
As we head into the colder months, now is a great time to make sure your home is ready and your family is safe!
🔥 Here are a few important safety reminders:
* Smoke Detectors: Smoke detectors provide early warning and can save lives. Check your detectors and replace any that are 10 years old or older.
* Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Check the age of your CO detectors and replace any that are 8 years old or older.
* Fire Extinguishers: Take a moment to inspect your extinguishers and make sure they are ready for use.
* Chimneys: Have your chimney cleaned and inspected before using your fireplace or wood stove.
* Heating Sources: Inspect your heating equipment to ensure everything is operating safely.
🪜 PLAN YOUR ESCAPE!
The pictures below show an emergency escape ladder that can be used if your primary escape route, such as a bedroom doorway or hallway, is blocked by fire or smoke.
These ladders are a great investment and can provide an additional way to get your family out safely during an emergency. Consider keeping one in every second-floor bedroom.
A few minutes of prevention today could save lives tomorrow!
Stay safe, stay prepared, and look out for one another!
