Officer-Involved Shooting Following Vehicle Pursuit
SOMERSET, OHIO – On the morning of October 23, 2026, officers with the Somerset Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motor vehicle. The driver failed to comply and fled from officers, resulting in a vehicle pursuit involving Somerset Police officers and Perry County Sheriff's deputies.
During the pursuit, which continued into Perry County, the suspect vehicle attempted to strike a Somerset Police officer. In response, the officer discharged their department-issued fi***rm at the suspect vehicle.
The suspect vehicle continued fleeing before ultimately crashing into a wooded area. Following the crash, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist with the incident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) will be conducting the investigation into the incident.
