A glowing jack-o’-lantern is one of Halloween’s most recognizable traditions. Whether it’s welcoming trick-or-treaters from the front porch or decorating the dining room table, the right light can make your pumpkin come to life. Before you strike a match or plug in your decorations, though, consider these bright ideas to keep you and the holiday safe.

As fall temperatures fluctuate, your thermostat settings can make a big difference on energy bills. On cooler days, lower the thermostat… and raise it during days that are warmer. On milder days, consider turning off your heating/cooling system altogether. A smart thermostat is also convenient for making temperature adjustments––and saving energy––even easier.

Every vehicle you meet has a story. Some tell you where someone is from. Others show school pride or support a favorite cause. The Powering Tennessee license plate tells a different story — one of appreciation. Every plate on the road represents someone who chose to stand behind the lineworkers who make daily sacrifices in order to keep our electricity on.

Every October, mysterious visitors begin appearing around our homes. Some float across front yards, others glow from carved pumpkins and a few hide in plain sight behind TVs and coffee makers. While these “ghosts” might not be supernatural, they can quietly haunt your electric bill. Grab your flashlight because it’s time to investigate three of the biggest energy ghosts lurking around your home.

Cooler temps are coming, which means your heating system will soon be working harder to keep your home comfortable. Fall is the perfect time to check for drafts around windows and doors––before cooler weather arrives. A little weatherstripping and caulk can help keep conditioned air indoors while improving efficiency and overall comfort.
