October is Pedestrian Safety Month

At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office would like to remind our community members to be alert and aware of your surroundings when walking.

When you’re a pedestrian, use crosswalks whenever possible, obey pedestrian signals, stay visible, and watch for approaching vehicles. Before crossing the street, look both ways and make sure it is safe to proceed. Avoid distractions, such as cell phones and headphones, and wear bright or reflective clothing when walking in low-light conditions.

Drivers also play an important role in pedestrian safety. Slow down, remain alert, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and use extra caution near schools, intersections, and residential neighborhoods.Pedestrian safety is everyone’s responsibility.

On Thursday October 1st, 2026, our office came together at our County’s historic courthouse for a meaningful event dedicated to raising awareness, honoring those affected by breast cancer, and reminding our community of the importance of early detection and support.

Seven police vehicles from departments within Somerset County were proudly wrapped in pink as a powerful symbol of solidarity and our commitment to spreading awareness throughout our community. On each vehicle there is a QR code that any Somerset county resident can scan and make an appointment for their annual mammogram. A special thank you to our sponsors, the Far Hills Race Meeting Association, Peapack Private, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset & Open Road Auto Group.

Thank you to the incredible presenters who shared important messages about breast cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and the strength it takes to face this disease.

Events like this remind us that awareness starts with a conversation and that together, we can continue to educate, support, and encourage one another.

Thank you to everyone who attended this event and helped to make this event possible and to all those who continue to stand with survivors, fighters, families, and loved ones affected by breast cancer.

Together, we wear pink. Together, we raise awareness. Together, we make a difference.
