Just a text post here, no gloss. Reforming fire insurance, managing forests, and hardening communities against disaster have been my top priorities since day one because it is destroying communities.
Meanwhile, replacing the FAIR plan and fire insurance wasn't even a listed priority by my opponent until June 4th just a few months ago after an entire primary election spent not talking about it. I've never heard or read her mention Prop 103, zone zero, biomass utilization, FireWise, or tax credits to help homeowners. Unsurprising because she's never worked on any of those issues.
Now, without any specific details, she's all about fire insurance and "lowering costs." Haven't we been through this rodeo before?
I feel like I'm running against a bumper sticker with a bad attitude.
Senate District 4 deserves better than a leader that will just switch their core beliefs and policies based on a consultant poll. Particularly with forest management and fire insurance and home hardening — these are complicated and expensive issues. These are decades-old issues. The shelf life of her commitments can be compared to milk.
And it hasn't aged much better on water or housing or schools or the many other issues, my opponent either refuses to answer, flip flops, or delivers a tear jerking anecdote while opposing all solutions because "Democrats."
I don't need a consultant to tell me we have to fix it because it's communities like mine going under from it. Driving poverty and addiction and homelessness and desperation. We should have a leader that knows inside what's important and has the moral fortitude to speak it.
I've always taken a wonky approach — technical ideas and long explanations — over glossy markups. I wanna make sure when I give you an answer, it's actually worth listening to. The marketing team hates it, but it's me.
So I bring tangible ideas openly published for your review, from land stewardship tax credits for defensible space to a low interest home equity homes for fire hardening to fully replacing the FAIR plan on my website . . . and in office, I'm gonna keep finding and supporting the best ideas from both sides and that won't change until it's solved.
My website and platform are in the comments. 👇
Truthfully, I don't have the same rich networks and we're being out fundraised massively. Her average donation is $2,000 and she is worth $80 million putting her in the top 0.1% net worth. She can send more paper than we can. She can pay for influence and billboards. She spends a hell of a lot of time in Sacramento.
We have won every debate, brought more support to every event, knocked more doors and made more phone calls, written more postcards, met more local officials, toured more communities, received more local and state endorsements, and brought together more bipartisan support.
But . . . we are still a grassroots campaign with over 2,200 small dollar donors and a lot of heart. There's no state party money backing me. No big incumbent war chests. No $5,900 ticket dinners. The establishment isn't tracking this race.
They assume a Republican will win regardless, and so that Republican takes their base for granted. And I'll bet the comments below opposing will simply say Vote Red, Democrats Suck, and have nothing positive to say about their candidate. They not only expect that, they bet you won't think beyond party. They bet that a candidate with no policies, no experience, who's probably the wealthiest person in any county they visit, who's put no time into understanding your community, who won't answer questions and whose sole tactic is the worst type of mudslinging can win if they just keep you mad enough at Democrats.
My hope is people reading this care more about integrity and solutions than scary mudslinging housing an empty campaign. Watch a debate and ask if that is the integrity of a person who should represent us an 900,000 other people.
Ask why it seems there's no Duarte volunteers or signs out there anymore. Why prominent Republicans are opposing her or sitting it out for being too extreme and vapid. Why some farm bureaus are opting to sit it out. Why at the last debate, we had 50 people and she had 7 — one of which was her husband and two of which were staff.
The same dirty dirty Duarte campaign tactics used against Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil are being reskinned to do the same against me with an 11 year old misdemeanor mugshot. They probably used the same Canva design template. It's because that's all she has — money and attacks.
But that toxcitiy doesn't win when we vote, when we get the others in our lives to vote, and we reach across the aisle to work together against the political class trying to buy our elections. Hoping you share this, send it and a message to the swing voters in your life. Go talk to a neighbor about this race or your kids or friends.
We're at 18 days. I believe we are going to win this.
