Ogden Ranger District
Causey Area Improvement Project

Closures remain in effect for Causey Reservoir, on the Ogden Ranger District, as projects are completed that will improve the recreation experience and address safety issues for visitors. Closures will be in effect during the entire construction period. Construction activities pose an inherent risk to the public. To complete projects within the anticipated timeframe, work crews will be granted sole access to the construction sites. No public access will be allowed. Any individual or group entering the closure area can and will be cited. The closure area is actively patrolled daily.

For more information visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/uinta-wasatch-cache

The closure order and maps will also be posted.

Logan Ranger District
Wind Cave Trailhead Project

The Logan Ranger District, in collaboration with Cache County Public Works and the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau, will begin renovations at the Wind Cave Trailhead. The project will improve the trailhead facilities, including construction of a new parking area and restroom.

Beginning October 26, the Wind Cave Trailhead, parking area, and trail will be closed to the public during the entire construction period. The project will involve heavy equipment operations, tree removal, and site preparation. Parking along U.S. Highway 89 near the trailhead will also be prohibited throughout the closure.

Visitors are encouraged to respect all closure signs and barriers, avoid the construction area, and follow posted safety instructions. These restrictions are necessary to provide for public safety while work is underway.

The current parking lot has limited parking and exposes parking vehicles to the high traffic speeds on the adjacent highway. Cars often back out of the lot directly into the travel lanes.

The project will increase parking capacity and improve safety by eliminating roadside parking and providing safe parking in a designated parking area. The project will also provide a new vault toilet to improve public health concerns.

Alternative Access to Wind Cave
Although the closure will affect the traditional route to Wind Cave, visitors can still access the Wind Cave via the Preston Valley Trailhead in Green Canyon. This alternative route is significantly longer, and visitors should plan accordingly.

Contact the Logan Ranger District Office at 435-755-3620 for additional information.

Yesterday, firefighters completed initial firing operations on Unit 1 of the Red Ryder Prescribed Burn, successfully treating around 100 acres.

The rainfall earlier in October added much needed moisture to the vegetation, allowing crews to burn hazardous fuels with minimal risk of the fire spreading.

Firefighters used hand held drip torches and a UTV-mounted Terra Torch to ignite down and dead material, targeting conifers encroaching in aspen stands.

The initial firing operation was successful, removing hazardous fuels near the edges of the burn area, creating “black line”, strengthening preconstructed containment lines around Unit 1.

Future prescribed burning is planned on the Red Ryder project area, with reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire to the communities east of the project area a primary objective.
