Fayette Township Fire Department The Fayette Township Fire Department has proudly served and protected its community since 1953. Our coverage area is primarily residential.

Driven by passion and a commitment to excellence, our dedicated volunteers have been there when it matters most — for over seven decades and counting. We are a 100% volunteer suburban/rural fire department located in Lawrence County, Ohio. We serve a population of ~9,169 and cover a total of 27.6 square miles. We operate out of two stations, Station 1, located in the Burlington community, and Station 2, located in the Sunrise community of Fayette Township. We currently run 4 Engine companies, 1 Heavy Rescue Company 1 Light Rescue company, 1 Tanker, and several support vehicles. On average, we respond to approximately 600+ emergency calls a year. Since 2019 we have had an automatic mutual aid agreement with the South Point Fire Department for all two districts' emergencies, this was updated in 2021 to only provide assistance with working structure fires or MVAs with injuries or entrapment. However, the past decade has brought much commercial and industrial growth to the township. We are bordered to the East by the Village of Chesapeake, to the North-East by Union Township, to the West by the Village of South Point, to the North West by Perry Township, and the North by Lawrence Township. The Ohio River forms our Southernmost border.

🚨🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FIREFIGHTER Kane LeBlanc! 🎉🚒

Today, the Fayette Township Fire Department would like to wish Firefighter Kane LeBlanc a very Happy Birthday! 🥳🔥

Kane may be getting older, but don’t worry, he’s still in his prime… at least that’s what he keeps telling himself.

We’re not saying Kane is getting old, but we’re starting to think his next piece of issued equipment should be a Life Alert instead of a PASS device.

All jokes aside, we’re lucky to have Kane as part of our department. His dedication, hard work, and willingness to serve our community never go unnoticed.

Help us wish Kane a Happy Birthday! 🎂🎈

Fayette Township Fire Department would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Burlington Elementary, Burlington Wesleyan Independent and Sybene Head Start for continuing to be a beacon for fire safety in our community! 🚒❤️

Year after year, they welcome our firefighters and give us the opportunity to spend time with students, teach important fire-prevention lessons, and help kids learn what to do during an emergency.

Fire prevention is about more than smoke alarms and escape plans—it’s about building good habits early, helping children feel comfortable around firefighters, and giving them knowledge they can take home and share with their families.

We’re incredibly grateful to the teachers, staff, and administrators who make fire safety a priority and allow us to be part of their students’ education.

Thank you for helping us build a safer community—one child at a time. 🚒🔥

Thank you, Burlington Elementary!

We had a great time with your students. They asked good questions, paid attention, and a few of them probably know more about fire safety now than some adults do.

What kids learn in a visit like this sticks, and we've seen proof. Just a few years ago, one of your own students used what they learned in fire safety class to get themselves and their family out of their home during a fire. They even shut the doors behind him, which kept the fire contained until we arrived. That's a Burlington kid who listened, remembered, and did exactly the right thing when it counted.

That's why these visits matter so much to us. Our firefighters look forward to them every year, and the kids' excitement is the best part. Thanks for having us, and for helping us keep Burlington's youngest residents safe!

Putting Burlington Back on the Envelope

Burlington was Lawrence County's first county seat and home to its first post office. It was also a place where people crossed the Ohio River toward freedom. The Macedonia Church, built in 1849 on the ridge above town and believed to be the first African American church in Ohio, was part of the Underground Railroad, and the Burlington 37 are still remembered here today.

That's a lot of history for one small community, and it's worth holding onto. So we're doing our small part by using Burlington in our mailing address:

Fayette Township Fire Department
7681 County Road 1
Burlington, Ohio 45680

Nothing else is changing. We haven't moved, and mail addressed to South Point will still reach us just fine. This is simply our way of paying respect to the community Station 1 has always called home.

It also has us thinking about the people who got us here. Long before we were one department, there were two, and each was built from scratch by neighbors who decided their community deserved protecting. In Burlington and in Sunrise, they raised the money, built the stations, kept the trucks running, and answered the calls, often with very little to work with. Their families gave up plenty of dinners, holidays, and nights of sleep right along with them.

That history belongs to both districts equally. A name on an envelope doesn't change that, and it was never meant to. Every member who served out of either station is part of the foundation we stand on today, and we carry both traditions with us on every call.

So to our past members and their families, from District 1 and District 2 alike: thank you. We're still here because of what you built.

From Burlington to Sunrise and everywhere in between, we're proud of where we came from and proud to serve you.

📢 FAYETTE TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS — FIRE LEVY INFORMATION

We want to make sure our residents have clear, factual information regarding the Fayette Township Fire Levy renewal.

The Lawrence County Auditor lists Fayette Township’s levy as a 2.00-mill fire levy. A renewal asks voters whether to continue the existing levy rather than create a new one.

The revenue from this levy is designated for fire protection services. Township financial records identify a Special Levy Fire Fund used for fire-related expenditures.

🚒 What does that mean in practical terms?

A simple example: when a fire engine responds to a structure fire, the department needs functioning apparatus, hose, SCBA equipment, protective gear, tools, fuel, maintenance and other operational resources. Levy funds help support the fire protection system that keeps those resources available and ready for emergency response.

In other words, the levy helps support the equipment and operational needs required to provide fire protection services throughout Fayette Township.

The attached letter from the Lawrence County Auditor’s Office provides additional information explaining what a renewal levy means and how the effective rate is handled.

We’re sharing this information so residents can better understand the purpose of the existing fire levy. We encourage everyone to review the information, stay informed, and make their own decision at the ballot box.

Proudly serving Fayette Township.
