Heavy Weather Expected — Boaters and Mariners Take Precautions
The Coast Guard is urging boaters to exercise extreme caution as hazardous weather approaches Coastal New Hampshire and Maine waters from late Thursday through Monday.
Forecast conditions include northeast winds of 20–30 knots with gusts exceeding 40 knots, seas of 9–13 feet, significant rainfall, dangerous surf, and possible minor coastal flooding around high tide. These conditions may make boating unsafe and could limit the Coast Guard’s ability to respond to emergencies.
Boaters should strongly consider remaining in port, seeking safe harbor, altering plans, and securing vessels, moorings, paddle craft, and small boats. Mariners underway should monitor the latest weather forecasts and maintain a continuous watch on VHF Channel 16.
Please review the Marine Safety Information Bulletin and National Weather Service forecast graphic below for additional details. For urgent safety-of-life emergencies, contact the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16 or call (833) 449-2407.
