This week we bring you Reading Buddies!

We aren't sure exactly when it started, but probably shortly after the Larrabee School and Norris School came together under one roof in 1995.

Every Friday afternoon, our kindergarten students and fifth graders come together to read books. But so much more happens!

Our fifth graders practice being patient, listening, and helping their younger buddies. They get to be role models and see how a little encouragement can make a difference.

Our kindergartners enjoy stories, ask questions, and get to know an older student who looks forward to spending time with them.

Over time, they build friendships that continue beyond their Friday afternoons together. We've talked with former students who still remember their reading buddies many many years later.

Do you remember yours? Tell us who it was!

What a great morning for National Walk to School Day! A little chilly, but the sun was shining as around 440 students, along with many parents and staff, joined in the fun! A big thank you to all of our town departments who helped make this event possible.
“An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.”

Mrs. Webster’s choice time this week!
Ever wonder why we value center/choice time so much in kindergarten? When children are actively manipulating materials, they are engaging in kinesthetic learning. Squishing slime builds hand stamina for handwriting. Constructing towers introduces early math and engineering concepts. Creative play primes the brain for focus. The best learning happens when it feels like play!

Another week and another great lesson captured!

On Tuesday in Mrs. Sullivan's grade 5 science class, students investigated the physical property of shape in gases using balloons. They applied pressure to the outside of the balloons and observed how the shape of the balloon—and the air inside—changed. Students discovered that gases do not have a fixed shape and take the shape of their container.
