🇺🇸 Shadrach Osborn, a merchant and Revolutionary War veteran who later became Southbury’s inaugural first selectman, has been at the center of an effort to restore his broken and neglected gravestone. Thanks to the Southbury America 250th Committee, the mission was accomplished.
💡Following the unveiling of the restored headstone, the committee hosted a Revolutionary War-era, local, history trivia night at The Tavern at Heritage Hotel. The evening featured some "Revolutionary" drink specials, and a complimentary bourbon tasting hosted by the artisans at Litchfield Distillery.
🥈 Congratulations to Southbury Selectwoman Cathy De Carli, who teamed with Joe Ruggerio, and took 2nd place in the trivia contest.

🗳️ William Tong’s record as CT Attorney General since 2019 includes major opioid settlements, consumer-protection enforcement, privacy and data-security cases, efforts to address prescription drug pricing, defense of state gun laws and civil rights, environmental litigation, and resolution of longstanding education and child-welfare cases. Tong worked to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements to support addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery. He held companies accountable for deceptive practices, including a $1.5 million Carvana settlement. The Attorney General secured a $391.5 million multistate settlement with Google over location-tracking practices. He pursued pharmaceutical companies over alleged price-fixing and anticompetitive practices. Tong has defended reproductive healthcare access, LGBTQ+ rights, and CT’s gun-safety laws. He helped resolve longstanding school desegregation litigation and advance improvements in child-protection services.

🗳️ Marie, a 93 year old Heritage Village resident voted early. A woman born in 1933 has lived through more than 90 years of American history, and has witnessed an extraordinary transformation in women's political rights, opportunities, and influence.
🎤 “When I was born, women had only been guaranteed the constitutional right to vote for 13 years,” said Marie. “I grew up in a country where many women were still expected to let men make the important decisions, including political ones. Over my lifetime, I have seen women go from having limited representation in government to serving at the highest levels of American leadership. I’m so proud to have the right to vote and I want to see women’s rights flourish instead of going backwards,” she concluded.

Today was the best day of the year at Southbury Town Hall! Not only can residents VOTE early, but Pomperaug Elementary School kindergarten students, visited First Selectman Tim O'Neil and the Town Hall staff, as part of their annual Halloween parade. Selectman O'Neil and staff were all smiles as little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses paraded through the halls and offices spreading Halloween cheer and collecting plenty of candy along the way. What a joyful day! Thank you PES staff and students for making the day boo-tiful!

🗳️ Since taking office in 2023, CT Comptroller Sean Scanlon has focused on managing public finances, lowering health care costs, strengthening retirement security, and improving accountability. His key accomplishments as comptroller include helping Hartford flood victims by establishing and managing a relief program that provided more than $12.5 million to 660 property owners, renters, and businesses. Scanlan helped expand affordable retirement savings by growing the MyCTSavings program from 876 participating businesses to nearly 8,000. He has worked to reduce prescription costs by establishing ArrayRx, CT’s state prescription discount card, helping more than 25,000 residents save on prescriptions. Scanlon supported first responders, helping advance the Fallen Hero Fund for families of first responders killed in the line of duty and expanded support for firefighter cancer screenings. Scanlon recently forecasted a $380 million General Fund surplus for fiscal year 2027 which reflects broader state budget and economic conditions.

🔎 Election integrity depends on transparency, accountability, and verification, not blind faith. Connecticut voters deserve to know that every vote is counted accurately and that the results can be checked!

In 2024, as Connecticut prepared to invest $20 million to replace voting equipment that had been in use for nearly two decades, I wanted to be sure the equipment we were considering could withstand attempts to compromise its security.

We enlisted researchers from UConn's Voting Technology Research (VoTeR) Center to try to hack the tabulators made by the companies competing for the contract.

Researchers spent days attempting to expose vulnerabilities before giving high marks in both hardware and software to the voting equipment manufactured by Election Systems & Software (ES&S).

Additionally, there are several safeguards built into the state's voting process:

✔️ Connecticut's tabulators are not connected to the internet, which means no one can remotely access them to alter vote totals.

✔️ Connecticut continues to use paper ballots that voters mark by hand.

✔️ Paper ballots provide a physical record of each vote and are preserved and can be examined during recounts and post-election audits to verify that the machines counted votes accurately.
