🚒 Three Democratic Councilors Vote NO to Staffing South Side Station 3 While Living Within Fire Headquarters’ Fastest Travel Coverage Area
Must be nice to live within the four-minute travel coverage area while voting against a solution for residents who don’t.
This map shows the problem. When Station 3 is unstaffed, portions of southern Southington fall outside the mapped eight-minute travel coverage. That is driving time alone, before adding call processing and firefighter turnout.
South side residents pay taxes, too. Their families deserve a solution.
The three Democrats supported applying for the SAFER grant, then voted against accepting it. Applying was easy. Following through apparently wasn’t.
Their vote effectively tells south side taxpayers: Pay your share, but when it comes to improving your fire coverage, you’re on your own.
The Southington Republican Town Committee stands with the four Republican councilors who voted to accept the grant and address this staffing need.
SRTC members remain committed to finding a long-term solution that strengthens and supports our volunteer firefighters while addressing this glaring gap in fire coverage. Our career and volunteer firefighters deserve support, and residents throughout Southington deserve dependable protection.
Good leaders work and find solutions. The south side of Southington deserves better.
