Southington Volunteer Fire Department Fire/EMS Department The Southington Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1949 after a fire destroyed the home of the Beatty Family on State Route 305.

The department started with only $20,000 with that they purchased a 1949 Dodge with a John Bean pump and the rest they built the fire station. Since then the department has grown and now consists of 6 units. These units include Engine 45 which is a 2019 Sutphen, Engine 45-1 is a 1996 Darley, Tanker 45 is a 2001 Freightliner, Squad 45 is a 2010 Osage Super Warrior on a Chevy 4500, Truck 45 is a 2017 Ford F-250, and Brush 45 is a 2020 Polaris Ranger. We are an all-volunteer department that averages 500 calls for service a year. We provide fire and EMS coverage to our residents and surrounding communities. Southington Township is 25 square miles with three state routes that run through our township. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers that would like to serve their community.

A little bit of station pride! Crews recently took our old brown table and gave it a new look. This table proudly displays our department’s original patch next to our current patch. Respect the past, Create the future!

Southington Fire was honored to help carry on Lt. Harkelrode’s legacy by being a part of Caitlyn’s senior night.

It was an honor to attend the BHS Senior Night this evening and show support to Caitlyn Harkelrode, daughter of Lt Tom Harkelrode who tragically passed away 4 years ago. In the fire service, family is of the highest priority. We make commitments to help our families past, present, and future. Caitlyn, and her siblings will have a lifetime of “uncles” from the many fire departments her father was associated with. We hope Caitlyn knows her and siblings are loved and looked over, even from afar.

We would like to thank the students and staff from Southington Local Schools for collecting items for a care package for our crews. Every year, the school staff takes time to ensure our students never forget the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001. This year in honor of the 25th anniversary, they wanted to do something a little extra and they decided to honor our local firefighters. We are very grateful for the support our community continually shows us!

We will never forget the lives lost, those who answered the call, and the sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.
