The annual REMSCO awards dinner was held on Wednesday, October 21 at Sunset Harbor in East Patchogue and two of SFD’s members were honored: Katie Schelin-Carlson won the Educator of Excellence award and Dianne Wamsley received Nurse of Excellence honors. Congratulations to them and all of the honorees who give so much to our communities.

Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services just wants to remind everyone of New York State's Move Over law.

The law says that for police cars, ambulances, tow trucks, construction, fire trucks, other EMS and emergency vehicles, and disabled vehicles on the side of the road, you must move over a lane or slow down. This helps protect anyone who works along our roadways as well as drivers. Whether they are flashing lights behind you or pulled over to the side at work, you must move over for them and/or slow down.

Help keep our roads safe.

As of August 10 in Suffolk County, there have been 116 water related calls, which is 30 more than last year. Additionally, there have been 13 confirmed deaths from drowning. Please practice water safety and take care of each other.

The Suffolk County MERV (Major Emergency Response Vehicle) paid a visit to Southold Fire Department on Thursday night to offer a tour as part of the North Fork Volunteer Rescue Squad’s monthly learning series. The unit can be deployed at an agency’s request and discretion.
