We completed another year of our wildfire mitigation project in the Oaks neighborhood. Because they are at risk for wildfires, we ask our residents to participate by clearing their property of excess trees/brush, to pile it neatly for us to come by and chip it for them, hauling it off for free. This helps lessen the risk for wildfire in this area, protecting lives and property, as well as meeting our state requirement for the Cooperative Wildfire System (CWS). Utah’s Cooperative Wildfire System (CWS) provides a strong incentive for local government to put local resources to work in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and fuel mitigation. As long as an eligible local government participates in CWS and completes a minimum level of work within their borders, they are financially protected from having to pay for the costliest wildfires.

Library and Finance staff participated in an earthquake evacuation drill to practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On procedures; staff accountability; area searches; safe evacuation; and medical response. Following the simulated earthquake, staff checked on one another, conducted assigned sweeps of their work areas when safe, identified missing or injured individuals, and evacuated to the designated assembly area. Supervisors accounted for all staff and reported anyone missing or unaccounted for.
Fire/EMS personnel assisted with simulated medical emergencies, patient assessment, and triage. Staff practiced communicating injuries and providing responders with information. The drill concluded with an after action review of how it all went. Feedback was received, which will be discussed and applied as necessary. Overall it was a great drill, and lots was learned.

💨 Prepare for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds 🌧️

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Utah County from 10/11/2026 @ midnight to 10/12/2026 @ 6pm, and a Wind Advisory from 10/10/2026 @ 3am to 10/11/2026 @ 6am.

An approaching storm stemming from Hurricane Rachel may bring heavier-than-normal rain and strong winds to Spanish Fork. Please take some time tomorrow (Oct. 10th), before the storm arrives, to prepare your home and property.

Prepare for heavy rain: Clear gutters and downspouts. If you can safely do so, remove leaves and debris covering nearby storm drains. Make sure water drains away from your foundation, move valuables out of areas prone to flooding, and check your sump pump if you have one.

Secure loose outdoor items: Secure patio furniture, umbrellas, trampolines, trash cans, and temporary structures. During strong winds, stay clear of trees and power lines.

Prepare for possible power outages: Charge phones, battery packs, and other essential devices. Keep flashlights and spare batteries within reach.

Travel safely: Never walk or drive through floodwater. Follow road closures and emergency instructions.

Stay informed: Monitor the National Weather Service for updated forecasts, watches, and warnings.

Thank you for taking these steps to help keep your family and our community safe. We issue additional updates as needed.
