Heavy rain from tropical moisture will impact Utah starting Saturday afternoon, with the heaviest precipitation from early Sunday to Monday morning. Widespread amounts of 1 to 2 inches are forecast, with over 3 inches locally, particularly in southern Utah and high terrain. We are also monitoring for a secondary area of heavy rainfall with a 10% chance of 2 inches of rain over portions of northern Utah, including the Wasatch Front. Heaviest rainfall will be determined by the track of Tropical Depression Rachel and how it interacts with a cold front, which a source of forecast uncertainty. If planning outdoor activities this weekend, strongly consider alternate plans.

10/09/2026

Gusty south winds are expected from the combination of the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel and an incoming cold front. Widespread wind gusts of 35-45 mph will occur on Saturday for most of Utah and SW Wyoming, with the exception of the northwest corner of Utah. The forecast is less certain on Sunday, however there is a 40% chance of wind gusts in excess of 50 mph across high terrain areas as well as southwest Wyoming.

Utah County Emergency Management was able to assist the City of Saratoga Springs, Utah with its flooding response from today’s storms by deploying our sandbagging machine to help support local operations.

The machine helped crews efficiently fill sandbags as they worked to protect homes, infrastructure, and areas at risk.

Flood response is a team effort, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to provide resources and support to our local partners when they need it most.
