October is Head Start Awareness Month, celebrating the impact Head Start and our Early Head Start Programs have on young children, families, educators and our local community.

The federal Head Start program was launched in 1965 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and the official awareness month was proclaimed in 1982. We celebrate each year comprehenisve early childhood education, health screenings, nutritional support, and family well-being resources provided for children from birth to age 5.

In light of that, we'll be posting short interviews with our staff who came through the Head Start program as young children. Please take a moment to hear from Ms. Champealla Stokes, Family Services Advocate for Head Start, as she explains her experience as a former student of the Hancock County Early Head Start, Head Start & Pre-K program.
