"State finance officials on Wednesday approved Newark Public Schools’ nearly $500 million, 30-year lease for a single elementary school, brushing past Republican opposition and warnings of a 'half-billion-dollar debacle.'

"After hearing more than an hour of fiery testimony, six finance board members present voted 4-2 in favor of the lease, despite concerns about the unusually high price for a single K-8 school serving 667 students. State finance officials on Wednesday approved Newark Public Schools’ nearly $500 million, 30-year lease for a single elementary school, brushing past Republican opposition and warnings of a “half-billion-dollar debacle.”

"Twenty Assembly Republicans, led by state Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia (R-Sussex) and Minority Leader John DiMaio (R-Warren), submitted a joint letter in April to state officials urging them to reject the deal."

"New Jersey has less than three months to opt into a new federal education tax credit program that Republican lawmakers say could deliver as much as $911 million in scholarship support to Garden State students.

"Assemblymembers Michael Inganamort (R-Morris), Dawn Fantasia (R-Sussex) and Gerry Scharfenberger (R-Monmouth) are pressing Gov. Mikie Sherrill to enroll New Jersey in the program before the January 1, 2027 deadline. They’re also sponsoring legislation that would take the decision out of the governor’s hands by requiring New Jersey to participate.

“'The Democratic Governor of Colorado said it best: "You’d have to be crazy not to opt in,”' said Inganamort.

"Thirty states led by governors of both parties have already announced plans to participate, according to the lawmakers, with neighboring New York among the latest."

New Jersey’s State Auditor has released a new audit of Newark Public Schools, and “certain matters” have been referred to the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.

Nearly FOUR YEARS were examined: July 2022 through May 2026. The findings reveal glaring failures in spending, oversight, and employee screening, along with MILLIONS in excess state aid and missed savings.

I spent the past year making noise about this and being chastised by the other side for supposedly being out of line. Well, this “I told you so” doesn’t feel so good because kids, families, and taxpayers got hammered while, apparently, the board was dozing, elected officials deflected or buried their heads in the sand, and the superintendent ran the district like a drunk college kid on spring break with his parents’ credit card.

Senator Space and Assembly Members Fantasia and Inganamort are championing legislation to provide $60 million in state aid to farmers who suffered serious crop loss in the April freeze.

"Fantasia said $60 million in aid for farmers is far from the controversial budget add-ons that annually bloat the state budget and make GOP legislators howl in protest.

"This year, state budget appropriations critics deride as 'pork' included $500,000 for pickleball courts and millions for other 'really beautiful things that are absolutely wants and not needs,' Fantasia said. Farm relief 'is not a want. It’s a need,' she added.

"Farming has a sprawling footprint in New Jersey, she said. Almost 10,000 farms generated nearly $1.5 billion in sales in 2022, federal data shows. They employ about 25,000 farmworkers, the bill says.

" 'We can sure as hell take $60 million from the general fund and give it to an industry that spans the entire state and brings in over a billion dollars to the state of New Jersey,' Fantasia said. 'We’re talking about people’s livelihoods and ability to keep jobs and stay in their homes.' "

"Governor Mikie Sherrill should’ve bumped that press conference a little later to happy hour because nobody should have to sit through an all-you-can-eat buffet of BS without a drink.

"Caldwell is resigning after a months-long investigation. Her campaign heard repeated concerns about behavior beginning in March. When did Sherrill know the deal, and what did she do besides leave him in charge of the state for 18 days while he was under investigation? Instead of an answer, we got Trump, Climate Week, and a random, off-the-wall claim that utility ratepayers will save a magical mystery billion dollars over eight months."

“Three northern New Jersey legislators have added their names to the growing list of legislators, industry leaders, small business owners and independent contractors who are asking Gov. Mikie Sherrill to delay the scheduled Oct. 1 implementation of the state’s revised ABC test.

“Senator Parker Space, Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia and Assemblyman Michael Inganamort (R-24), have sent a letter to the governor asking her to withdraw or at least delay the effective date of the regulation until July 1, 2027.

“NJBIA has been leading a grassroots campaign to stop the implementation of the controversial rule by asking freelancer workers, businesses that use them and consumers who benefit from them to urge the Sherrill administration to delay the rule set to go into effect in 14 days. “

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call in our nation’s darkest hour.

We remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, especially the eight victims that lived in Legislative District 24, the families who lost loved ones, and the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed.

Today and every day, we honor their memory by continuing to serve our communities with compassion, courage, and a commitment to one another.

We will never forget.
