Spavinaw Mayor Amanda Miller Mayor. Strategist. Civic systems nerd. I fix broken processes-and occasionally, broken trust. I'm big on small government and citizen's rights. Period.

Don't ask me to use government authority to do your bidding... I ran for office to make sure that my government didn't get out of the control of the citizens given the right to exercise control over it. I believe in government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People. Apparently, that ticks some people off. :)

Amanda About Town📍Hulbert, OK

I had so much fun tonight visiting another town about the size of ours (Hulbert, OK) to see how another small town does events. It was a blast and oh, so neat! In towns like ours, events are the glue that holds communities together. It was inspiring to see Hulbert put on an event that could compete with something you'd expect from a much bigger town. We know it's hard work, but you guys pulled it off so well!
Special thank you to Mayor Goodman for inviting me and my family out! 🫶 You guys did a wonderful job!

From Spavinaw, with Love. 🖤💜

‼️ Big news ‼️
Spavinaw Fire Department is getting a major addition!

After several years of planning and teamwork, the Town's Fire Department is moving forward with a building expansion totaling $377,632.64- paid outright with ZERO loans. This is in no small part due to the department’s responsible spending and intentional savings... They’ve been dreaming this up for years and working hard to make sure it happened.

A huge thank you to:
• Our Fire Chief and the Spavinaw Fire Department
• Mayes County Commissioners
• City of Tulsa Gov
• The rock stars in the County Purchasing Office who worked so hard to make this happen!

Right now, Spavinaw Fire has 11 volunteer firefighters (no, they do not get paid "per run"). Between multiple trucks, a boat, an amphibious vehicle, and two support vehicles, space has been tight. Soon, the support vehicles, tanker, and ladder truck will finally have a home indoors to protect them from the weather and the elements.

The Town cannot stress enough how proud we are to have a department that is goal-oriented, hardworking, and dedicated to their job and their community, . Thank you, Spavinaw Fire! 🔥 🚒 👨‍🚒 👩‍🚒

It's long, but it's worth the read.
But here's the summary in case you don't have a lot of time.
TLDR: Social media algorithms are replacing genuine human connection with constant, manufactured anger. In the past, communities were bound by shared experiences and a deep understanding of one another, which naturally tempered our political disagreements. Today, however, we allow screens to feed us the worst snippets of humanity, and that practiced hostility bleeds into our real-world relationships, slowly driving away family and friends.
To preserve our communities, we must intentionally step away from our devices, ignore the outrage, and re-engage with the simple, real-world bonds that politics shouldn't touch. Ultimately, when the people we love are gone, we will regret the time we spent ignoring them just to be angry at our phones.

Did you know? Spavinaw has a free Narcan dispensary box located at the Spavinaw Community Center (green building on Main) right next to the front door. Take what you need, but please leave some for those who need it, too.
Forever grateful for community assistance. 🙏

A phone was found at the football field.
If you are missing a phone, you'll need to come to Spavinaw Police Department and give the officer the unlock code to retrieve it.

From getting letters stating that we're out of compliance because the town hasn't properly worked on Floodplain issues since 1999, (some local documents were found from 2011, but the State had no record of them), to some full-blown, hard-hitting training, we've finally reached accreditation.
We're one step closer to Spavinaw residents receiving major discounts on flood insurance, and also helping to ensure that FEMA assists our town in the event of a flood.
I'm proud to do this job every day to help improve Spavinaw citizens' quality of life. 🫶

Introduction. 👋

09/22/2026

Please keep in mind that even though the burn ban has been lifted, Langley and Disney are still under a severe drought, with Spavinaw right behind them. These conditions can cause fires to spread quickly if they start.
Remember our neighbors, and remember your neighbors if you choose to participate in any type of burning activity.
It's also wildfire season. 🔥
