A HUGE thank you to WonderLab Museum for visiting PES and providing our 4th–6th graders with some amazing hands-on STEM rotations! Our young scientists explored three exciting experiments:

🫧 Lava Lamps – Students discovered how liquids with different densities separate and how chemical reactions create bubbles that rise and fall.

👀 Thaumatropes – Students explored the science of optical illusions by spinning pictures so quickly that their eyes and brains blended two images into one.

🎨 Shrinky Dinks – Students learned how heat causes special plastic to shrink and thicken, transforming their creations into miniature masterpieces.

The BEST part? Our students were thrilled to bring home all three of their experiments to share a little science magic with their families! 🏠✨

Thank you, WonderLab, for making learning so engaging and FUN!

We're already counting down the days until your next visit! ❤️

It is with profound sadness that the Owen Valley High School and Spencer-Owen Community School Corporation families mourn the passing of our College & Career Coach, Mychal Doering.

Mychal was more than a colleague and mentor. He was a dynamic, compassionate individual whose positivity, encouragement, and genuine care made a lasting difference in the lives of our students and staff. His passion for helping students discover their potential and plan for their futures touched countless lives.

During this difficult time, OVHS will have mental health counselors, school counselors, and clergy available to provide support to students and staff who may need assistance.

We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Mychal’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mychal will be deeply missed, but the lives he touched, the confidence he inspired, and the difference he made will carry on.

Arrangements are pending.

Mark your calendars! 🍟

📚❤️ BOOK BUDDIES: Building Readers, One Book at a Time! ❤️📚

Thanks to a generous grant from the Owen County Community Foundation, our Spencer-Owen Community School Corporation kindergarten students are discovering the joy of reading through our wonderful Book Buddies program!

📖 Each month, special volunteer readers visit EVERY kindergarten classroom to share a story and inspire a love of books!

One of the things that makes this program so special is its focus on positive male role models. When children see men reading, they learn that reading is for EVERYONE! These meaningful interactions help build confidence, encourage literacy, and show our youngest learners that reading is something to enjoy and celebrate.

And the BEST part? 🎉

Every kindergarten student receives their very own copy of the featured book to take home and add to their personal library! 📚

👏 A HUGE thank you to our wonderful volunteer Book Buddies:

📚 Bill Grandi – Spencer & Gosport Elementary Schools

📚 Ryan East – McCormick's Creek Elementary School

📚 Larry Hensley – Patricksburg Elementary School

Our students ALWAYS look forward to welcoming these special guests into their classrooms!

❤️ Thank you to the Owen County Community Foundation and our dedicated volunteers for investing in our youngest readers. You're helping us build a community of lifelong learners, one story at a time!
