Elementary specialists teach music, art, science, and P.E. to K-5 students. These positions are supported in part by the local Educational Programs and Operations levy, which helps to fund academic programs, services, and student activities and athletics that are not funded by the state. On October 30th, the halls of Spokane Public Montessori will come alive as students present biographical research about real-life heroes who have inspired, influenced, and made an impact on the world.

Students will share what they’ve learned with visitors, bringing history and remarkable individuals to life through their presentations.

And for days when they can't make it, we appreciate our classroom assistant substitutes!

Maria Montessori believed that the hands are the instruments of the mind. Children need to touch, hold, and manipulate objects in order to learn. This is especially true in early childhood, when the senses are still developing and play a key role in how the brain grows.
Every material in a Montessori classroom has a reason for being there. It’s not just about keeping children busy. Each activity builds a specific skill; whether it’s fine motor control, number sense, language, or coordination.
When children work with their hands, they become very concentrated in their work. Because the Montessori materials are hands on and self-correcting, the children don't need constant help or praise.

This week we're excited to spotlight what our lower elementary students are working on! Our classes have been working on getting used to new classrooms, making name tags, introducing new classmates and lessons like the fundamental human needs, timeline of life, fractions, grammar boxes, states of matter, bead chains, starting work journals and listening to great stories. Our lower el students are settling in nicely to their new classrooms, and we're excited for this new year! Happy learning!
