The Spokane Regional Health District offices will be closed on Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, October 13.

On Indigenous Peoples' Day, we recognize and celebrate the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous people across our nation. It's also an opportunity to learn about and reflect on the history of Indigenous people in the Spokane region, the traditional territory of the Spokane Tribe of Indians, and their lasting impact on our community.

Looking for ways to celebrate this year’s observance? All Our Relations is hosting a community event on Monday in Riverfront Park to honor and celebrate Indigenous culture. All are welcome!

Wondering how you can protect your health from RSV this season? Here’s what to know!

👉 What is RSV?

RSV is a respiratory illness caused by the respiratory syncytial virus that typically causes mild, cold-like symptoms but can cause more severe illness in babies and older adults.

👉 How does RSV spread?

Most commonly spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. People nearby can become sick if they inhale these droplets through their nose or mouth. It can also spread through close contact with someone who is sick with RSV or if someone touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

👉 What are the symptoms of RSV?

Symptoms include a runny nose, coughing, sneezing, fever, and wheezing.

👉 How can I protect myself from RSV?

The RSV vaccine is recommended for all adults ages 75 and older, adults ages 50–74 who are at greater risk, and pregnant women during weeks 32–36 of pregnancy. Everyone should practice good hygiene habits, such as covering your coughs and sneezes and washing your hands often with soap and water.

Speak to your provider if you have questions or concerns about getting vaccinated.
