Over the Cascade Mountains and heading east and south, a visitor discovers a unique beauty – drier and cultivated with sustainable farm practices. Although wheat farming in Eastern Washington started in earnest in the 1880’s, it wasn’t until 1958 the state’s farmers saw the need for individuals to pool their resources to support the industry. That year, farmers created the Washington Wheat Commission and voted to pay an assessment on each bushel of wheat produced in Eastern Washington. On July 27, 2009, the Washington Wheat Commission merged with the Washington Barley Commission (established in 1985) to form the Washington Grain Commission. Today, through marketing, research, education and grower services, the Washington Grain Commission, under the direction of an eleven-member board, supports the work of over 3,000 farms in Washington State – nearly all of which are family-owned and operated.

The Washington Grain Commission (WGC) is proud of its longstanding partnership with Washington State University (WSU). The work done by scientists, staff, and students there directly benefits the wheat and barley farmers of Washington.

As the new USDA-ARS Plant Bioscience Research Building opens its doors, we look forward to the decades of strong science and great work that will take place within its walls.

By hosting customers brought to Washington by U.S. Wheat Associates, the WGC helps showcase the quality of our wheat, connect buyers with growers, and start conversations that can ultimately lead to new sales.

It’s relationship-building with a purpose: creating and maintaining markets for Washington wheat.

A big thank you to Clear Source Communications for an excellent day of training 👏

A big thank you to the Washington Grain Commission for inviting us in for communications training.

We covered a lot of ground, from clear messaging, earned media and crisis communications to interview skills, communications tools, AI and the importance of making sure your story is being told accurately and effectively.

We also put some of those skills into practice with mock interviews and real-world scenarios.

At Clear Source Communications, we help people craft their communications so they can be heard, trusted, and recognized as industry experts without risking their reputation. Building trust and credibility takes consistent, effective communication, and we appreciated the opportunity to work through that with the Commission and its team.
