Weather conditions this week will continue to be mild and dry through Wednesday. Then the pattern will change for the latter half of the week with shift toward wetter conditions, cooler temperatures, and breezy winds (Friday). Snow levels will lower over the weekend with the potential for light snow in the mountains and over mountain passes.

Do you want temperatures? We've got temperatures. Here is an image of the chilly to cold morning lows, with a potpourri of temperatures from the low 20s to near 50 in spots. Take your pick.

But wait, there's more....

Want to know the high temperatures for today? I have that chart here too: some upper 50s, a lot of 60s and a few low 70s.

But wait, there's more...

Want to know the temperature forecast for the week? I have a table of the highs and lows Sunday to Saturday. It shows relatively mild readings then a cool down toward the end of the work week.

But wait, there's more...

Low temperatures are forecast to drop into the 30s over a large portion of the area, with some 20s in the northeast valleys, bringing frosty or freezing temperatures to many areas. We are largely beyond the traditional growing season now, so if you still have any plants or anything you want to protect this is your notice.

Winds will be breezy out of the west to southwest on Saturday (tomorrow!). These winds will result in patchy blowing dust, choppy lakes, and crosswinds on north-south highways. Make sure those Halloween decorations are tied down! 🎃

It's Time For the ShakeOut Earthquake Drill! In most situations, if you feel shaking or get an earthquake alert, immediately:

DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees. This position protects you from being knocked down and reduces your chances of being hit by falling or flying objects.

COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand.

If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath for shelter.
If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall.
Stay on your knees; bend over to protect vital organs.

HOLD ON until the shaking stops.

Under shelter: hold on to it with one hand; be ready to move with your shelter if it shifts
No shelter: hold on to your head and neck with both arms and hands.

You can find more earthquake safety guidance at https://www.shakeout.org/dropcoverholdon/.

On Oct. 15, 2026, students, families, neighbors and employees will drop, cover and hold on for the Great Washington ShakeOut, part of the country’s largest earthquake drill. The event also includes siren tests and evacuation drills in some schools.

At 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 15, you’re invited to drop, cover and hold on wherever you are – whether it’s at work, home or school. Practicing builds muscle memory for when the real earthquake comes. This will help you react quicker and be safer. A drill recording is available to help with the experience.

At about the same time, more than 120 Washington tsunami sirens along the inner and outer coast will be tested using the real wailing sound of a tsunami warning, not the Westminster Chimes that are typically used during the monthly tests. PLEASE DO NOT CALL 911.

There WILL be a test of the Emergency Alert System on radio and television this year.

The Wireless Emergency Alert text system on cell phones will NOT be tested.

Those who have downloaded the free MyShake Earthquake Early Warning App on their phones will get a test. Sirens related to the Columbia Generating Station will be tested in the Tri-Cities areas and some local jurisdictions will test their reverse 911 and opt-in text alerts. NOAA Weather Radios will also sound an alarm. To make sure you’re signed up for alerts, visit https://mil.wa.gov/alerts

Lahar sirens in Pierce County will not be tested.

This year’s ShakeOut theme is “Prepared Neighbors.” After a major earthquake and/or tsunami, there will be help coming in the forms of first responders and assistance coming in from all over the country. But in the immediate aftermath of a quake, individuals and neighbors in local communities will be the first ones responding. In addition to practicing Drop, Cover, and Hold On this ShakeOut, everyone is encouraged to do at least one more thing to help their neighborhood become more prepared. Learn more at https://mil.wa.gov/neighborhoods

Registration isn’t required but it helps the state understand how effective its outreach is. It’s also free and easy to register at https://www.shakeout.org/washington
