“To meet each person with dignity, offer meaningful support, and create opportunities for healing, stability, and lasting change.” This statement has remained at the heart of the care that Transitions provides to women and children in Spokane since 1986.

In addition to the many meaningful opportunities they provide, Transitions also believes that the fullness of each person is realized in relationship with others. That belief was explored by some of their members at our 5-day IAF Pacific Regional Training in June where they had the chance to grow and connect with like-minded individuals.

We are proud to be working closely with Transitions and look forward to seeing how the lessons they learned from this training will be incorporated into not only their work lives but their personal lives as well.

We are excited to share that The Seattle Social Housing Developer (SSHD) will be hosting an information session in Spokane at the Community Building (located in the downtown Saranac Building) on Tuesday, October 20, from 10:15 AM to 12:00 PM.

If you're interesting in learning more about social housing initiatives, what SSHD has accomplished so far, future planning, resident governance, and more, then you won't want to miss this opportunity.

Following the information session, several staff members will attend the Housing Washington Conference for additional opportunities to connect with Washington’s housing network and answer questions.

Visit the Seattle Social Housing Developer website to learn more about who they are and how they are addressing Seattle's housing needs: https://seattlesocialhousing.org/

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Spokane Valley understands that being part of a community means showing up when people need connection, support, and a place to belong. They show up for their community by bringing people together through worship, service, fellowship, and outreach to the wider community.

At the IAF Pacific Regional Organizing Training, Resurrection leaders strengthened their organizing skills and explored how relationships across institutions can help people recognize shared concerns and work toward meaningful change.

What if owning a home was within reach for every hardworking family? Village Cohousing Works is helping answer that question by building affordable, energy efficient homes and selling them at cost to low income families. Their work creates opportunities for homeownership while helping families build equity, put down roots, and become part of a supportive community.

Village Cohousing Works brought that perspective to the IAF Pacific Regional Organizing Training, where leaders strengthened their community organizing skills and built relationships with people working on issues across the region. Their focus on affordable homeownership adds an important housing perspective to the Spokane Alliance and the work of building stronger communities.

What happens when a church becomes more than a building?

At West Central Abbey, it looks like creating a place where people can gather around faith, food, creativity, and community. Located in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood, the Abbey describes itself as a neighborhood community practicing creativity, compassion, justice, and joy. Through gatherings like Dinner Table, they bring neighbors together to share meals, build relationships, and create a sense of belonging.

This year the Spokane Alliance trained leaders from the Abbey at Regional Training and Foundations of Community Organizing to deepen their congregational development and community organizing skills.

For the people who keep our grocery stores stocked, care for patients, prepare food, and keep essential services running, having a voice at work matters. UFCW 3000 represents more than 50,000 workers across Washington, northern Idaho, and Oregon, organizing for better workplaces and for economic, political, and social justice in their communities.

When workers organize, the impact doesn't stop at the workplace. The IAF Pacific Regional Organizing Training brought UFCW 3000 leaders together with faith, nonprofit, and community leaders to sharpen their organizing skills and explore how people can build enough collective power to create change far beyond their own institutions.

Health is shaped by more than what happens in a doctor's office. Health Equity Circle brings students and community partners together to examine the conditions that shape people's health, including housing, access to resources, and other factors that affect how people live and thrive.

At Regional Training, Health Equity Circle leaders stepped into a room with people working on very different community issues and explored how organizing can connect those experiences. Their participation brought a health equity perspective to the training and added another voice to the growing network of Spokane leaders learning how to build stronger communities together.

The Spokane Alliance is proud to endorse the No 645 campaign. Repealing the Millionaires Tax would put funding for education, health care and child care at risk, while also affecting tax relief for working families and small businesses.

We believe Spokane and Eastern Washington voices should be part of this important statewide conversation.

Join us tonight for a No on 645 debate watch party at Q Lounge in Spokane. We’ll be watching the debate featuring Washington State Labor Council President April Sims and Jamie Herrera Butler. The debate begins at 8 p.m., with the watch party starting at 7:30 p.m.

Westminster United Church of Christ has been part of the Spokane community for more than a century, bringing people together through faith, service, and a commitment to justice. Through community partnerships, Westminster works to advance social justice, care for creation, and equity for everyone.

This year, Spokane Alliance trained leaders from Westminster at Regional Training and Foundations of Community Organizing, strengthening their congregational development and community organizing skills alongside leaders from across the Pacific region.

Good conversations don't happen by accident.

They happen because partners are willing to invest in bringing people together, creating space to learn from one another, and imagining what we could build together.

Thank you to Spokane's University District, Waters Meet Foundation, Better Health Together, and Avista Foundation for helping make the Housing for the Public Good Event series possible!

And thank you to Jimmy John's for sponsoring our roundtable event.
