This will be starting today! The plan is to start with the North side of town (anything North of the highway) and they will see how far they get, tomorrow they may start on the south side--all depending on how far they get today with the testing.

ATTENTION---RESIDENTS and BUSINESS OWNERS!!!! THIS IS SLATED FOR NEXT MONDAY!! (October 12th) weather dependent.

🚨 NOTICE: SANITARY SEWER SMOKE TESTING 🚨

The City of Spring Grove, with assistance from WHKS & Co., will be conducting smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines throughout portions of Spring Grove Monday, October 12th, 2026.

🏠 What does this mean for homeowners?

City crews will be testing sewer lines by forcing non-toxic white smoke into the sanitary sewer system. Crews will then observe where the smoke appears to help identify areas where clear water may be getting into the sewer system through leaks, cracks, or other defects.

You may see white smoke coming from:
• Sewer vent pipes on roofs
• Areas around homes or buildings
• Defects in underground sewer lines

Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke! The smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue, and does not create a fire hazard.

💧 Please check your drains!

Smoke can enter a home or building if a drain trap is dry or if there is defective plumbing. Before testing begins, residents should pour approximately one gallon of water into each drain to make sure the traps are filled with water. Drains that are regularly used should already have water in the traps.

📸 What will crews be doing?

While the smoke testing equipment is operating, City crews will be moving quickly throughout the testing area and may take photographs of problem areas as part of the evaluation.

If smoke does enter your home or building, please report the location to the work crews or call City Hall at (507) 498-5221.

This testing is an important part of the City’s sanitary sewer system evaluation program and will help identify areas that may need attention to improve the system and reduce unnecessary clear-water flow into the sanitary sewer.

UFF DA… IT’S UFFDA FEST WEEKEND!
Spring Grove is gearing up for a weekend full of fun, friends, events, and probably a few “Uff da, I spent too much!” moments.

A few tips to help you plan ahead:
Need keys for an event? Pick them up ahead of time! City Hall is only open until 4:30 p.m. today.

Making a few stops? Plan for a sober driver—or better yet, walk to your destination when you can! Our County Deputies are pretty awesome, but their back seats are very uncomfortable.

Garage sale shopping? Budget that paycheck wisely… because “I’m just going to look” never, pans out.
