United Way of Hernando County United Way of Hernando County brings together local businesses, organizations & volunteers to focus on lasting changes to key issues here in our community.

United Way of Hernando County is on a constant mission to invite community members as well as organizations to join the movement and pledge to LIVE UNITED. UWHC proudly invests in over 26 local Health, Education, & Financial Stability programs, as well as a multitude of in house Community Impact programs here for our county. UWHC works hard to balance the growing demand for basic services such as food, utility, and rent assistance, with our ongoing commitment to tackling the underlying causes of complex and seemingly intractable problems. Our support for long-term commitments are essential to addressing key social issues. These initiatives include helping children, adults, & elders, encourage health and wellness, physical and emotional care, promote financial stability and self-sufficiency, and crisis intervention. UWHC also focuses on a much larger spectrum; initiatives such as homelessness all the way to hardworking individuals such as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), men and women of all ages who get up each day to go to work, but aren’t sure if they’ll be able to put dinner on the table each night. Through β€œcollective collaborations” we strategically raise funds through multiple avenues: workplace giving campaigns, grant opportunities, corporate support, give-back events, residential donors, etc., and invest in the places where we live and work to make a stable community for families and businesses. Our goals are ambitious, but with your help, and by utilizing our core strengths β€” a national network, committed partners and public engagement capacity β€” we can achieve them. As we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all.

🌧️ Storms can bring more than physical challenges β€” they can also bring anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. Taking a few simple steps before and during a storm can help you feel more prepared and grounded.

Here are 5 simple ways to support your mental wellbeing during a storm:

🧰 1. PREPARE & STAY SAFE
Having an emergency plan, supplies, important contacts, and a safe place to go can help reduce uncertainty and give you a greater sense of control.

For local storm preparedness information and emergency updates, follow Hernando County Emergency Management

🏠 2. CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
Make your space as comfortable and calming as possible. Keep important items nearby, limit unnecessary noise, and stay connected with people you trust.

πŸ“š 3. EDUCATE YOURSELF
Use reliable sources for storm updates and safety information. Understanding what to expect can help reduce fear and prevent misinformation from adding to your stress.

For trusted hurricane information and forecasts, visit the National Hurricane Center: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

🧘 4. PRACTICE RELAXATION
Take a few moments to breathe, stretch, listen to calming music, pray or meditate, or simply step away from the constant stream of updates when it is safe to do so.

πŸ’™ 5. GIVE BACK
Helping others can create a sense of purpose, connection, and community during difficult times. Check on a neighbor, share helpful resources, volunteer, or give what you can.

Want to help your community prepare and recover? Volunteer with United Way of Hernando County as a Disaster Relief Volunteer: www.UnitedWayHernando.org/Volunteer

You can also support local relief and recovery efforts by donating: www.UnitedWayHernando.org/Give

🫢 NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO?
Storms and disasters can take a toll on your mental health. If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Support is available 24/7.

When we look out for ourselves and each other, we build a stronger, more resilient community. πŸ’™
