The Student's View: Ali Highhill!

This week was the first playoff win for the field hockey program!!

We played Hudsonville, a team we had lost to previously in the season, but our improvements helped us to come out with a win of 3-2. We played with intensity and persistence, as we worked to secure our spot in the upcoming game.

Next, we are on to play Dexter in the regional semifinals, wish us luck, and have a good week!

Spring Lake High School students recently took part in Boomerang, a fantastic career event held at Grand Haven High School connecting local businesses with area high schoolers to showcase the incredible opportunities available right here in our region.

Why "Boomerang"? The philosophy is as inspiring as it is simple: we want our students to go out into the world, get trained, gain amazing experience, and have fun—all while knowing that their hometown will be here waiting to welcome them back when they're ready to bring their skills and expertise home.

For years, our Lakers have taken full advantage of this opportunity to build connections and explore future pathways. Bravo to our students for taking proactive steps toward their futures!

Reaching far beyond the finish line!

This fall, our Girls Cross Country team celebrated two incredible milestones honoring tradition, team connection, and community service:

🎨 15 Years of Whiteboard Art: For 15 years, Coach A has drawn personalized whiteboard art for his racers before finishing the season—a thoughtful tradition that reflects the deep, personal connection he builds with every single student-athlete.

🐶 10 Years of "Jogs with Dogs": For a full decade, Coach A and the runners have collected food, toys, blankets, and essential supplies for local animal shelters. During their annual early morning drop-off at the Big Lake Humane Society, the girls get to deliver the goods and spend time with the animals—whether running the trails with shelter dogs or cuddling with the cats.

Bravo to Coach A and our cross country runners for showing what it truly means to make an impact both on and off the course!

Little scientists, big discoveries!

Our DK students at Jeffers Elementary have been putting their five senses to work with two favorite snacks: apples and popcorn!

Suited up in safety gloves and looking glasses to properly look the part, these young researchers spent snack time observing, tasting, and sharing all the similarities and differences they experienced. Hearing them confidently share out their scientific findings was absolute magic!

Way to stay curious, Lakers!

The Student's View: Megan Rasmussen!

Hey guys!

This fall break I got to do some pretty interesting things. After school on Thursday, my mom and I hopped onto a flight and headed down to Fort Myers, Florida. There, I was able to tour Florida Gulf Coast University, and I loved it!

We also got to go to Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. We got to see some cool wildlife there. On Sunday and Monday, because the weather was so good (it was sunny and 85 degrees!!), my mom and I hit up the beach. It was so nice soaking up the sun since it's starting to get a little chilly in Spring Lake.

Fall break was definitely a very well-needed break.

Step right up and give a massive thank you to our incredible SLPS Transportation Department!

For Bus Safety Week, we are highlighting the commitment our incredible drivers and entire department make every single day. Their main priority is the safety of our Lakers, and they prove it through constant training and unwavering vigilance.

Just yesterday, our drivers participated in an 8-hour safety in-service day, sharpening their knowledge and skills to ensure every child gets to school and home safely.

With approximately 960 stops made every single day within our community, our team is a backbone of SLPS. Thank you to the dedicated men and women of our Transportation Department for caring so deeply for our students.

You are appreciated! ❤️🩶

With the Intermediate School Walkathon wrapped up last Thursday—where top student fundraisers earned the ultimate prize of turning Mr. Fitz and Ms. Larson into human sundaes—and the Middle School Walkathon taking place tomorrow, our K-8 Parent Clubs have officially surpassed an astounding $100,000 in total fundraising!

What makes this accomplishment even better? That money gets turned around quickly, supporting these very students. These funds directly support:
🚌 Additional field trips
🥳 End-of-year celebrations
🍿 Popcorn Fridays
🛝 Playground equipment & upgrades..and so much more!

Our parent community’s dedication and generosity are simply unmatched!❤️🩶

The Student's View: Pranay Patel!

Hey Lakers!

Seniors are required to have 18 hours of volunteering before graduation, and those in the National Honor Society must have 30. This is a great opportunity for students to make a positive impact on the community.

On Saturday night, several Lakers volunteered for the Halloween Party at the Corkery Township Town Hall, running games and handing out candy to kids. It was amazing to see so many students come together to bring smiles to kids.

Weekend Update: Mel Hall Invitational!

Our cross country teams made the most of their one and only home meet of the season in spectacular fashion. Set against a backdrop of gorgeous trails and beautiful autumn leaves, both squads delivered massive performances on their home course:
🥇 Boys Team: 1st Place Champions!
🥈 Girls Team: 2nd Place Podium Finish!

What a incredible day for our runners and everyone who came out to cheer them on.

Outstanding job defending the home course, Lakers! ❤️🩶
