Last week, WE had the joy of getting to know Mary, who just celebrated a milestone birthday, a little better - - and what a joy it was! We already knew so much about her, but the stories we heard gave us even more reasons to appreciate the very special Woman she is. Remember back in the day when Baskin-Robbins would send you a birthday card you could redeem it for a free ice cream cone? Well, who knows, maybe you were lucky enough to bring that card to Mary's very own ice cream shop! Not only did she own a Baskin-Robbins, but she was also one of the first Women to own one. (Go Mary!) And that was just one of her many work accomplishments! She was also a hairdresser, and she ran a Christian school. Mary's life was rooted in her faith, with her church and her relationship with the Lord always holding the most important places in her heart. But she was also a Woman of many talents! She was a self-taught seamstress who even made one of her daughter's wedding dresses, and she enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. And if you were lucky enough to taste one of her incredible ice cream cakes, you knew she had a special gift in the kitchen! “God bless you” and “Praise the Lord” were among her favorite expressions, and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with any and all of her five grandsons. Her children describe her as kind, friendly, and giving. WE can't think of a better legacy than that! And finally, a little something that made us smile: Mary, not surprisingly, was a Sunday driver! But if there is one thing she hopes to be remembered for above all else, it is this: she IS a strong Christian Woman who loves the Lord. To Mary's daughter, thank you for sharing a little more of your mom's story with us. Her life, her faith, and the love she has given to others are a beautiful reminder of what truly matters.
