Congratulations to Assistant Chief Matthew Boney, Lieutenant Jeffrey Potischman, and Firefighter Anderson Cisneros on being named the 2026 Rockland County Firefighters of the Year! On April 6, Boney, Potischman, and Cisneros rescued a woman from a structure fire on Williams Ave under heavy fire conditions while short handed. The award was presented this past Friday at the 114th Annual Convention of the Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters Association. The three men join Seymour Mindich (1974,) Jimmy Harris and Pete Carney (1979) as firefighters from Hillcrest to receive this prestigious award. Outstanding job, men!

6-Squad is currently standing by at Woodbury covering Woodbury Fire Department and Monroe Joint Fire District as they march in today’s Orange County Firemen’s Parade. Good luck in the parade!

This morning at 4:19, the Hillcrest Fire Company was dispatched to a Structure Fire on West Burda Place in the New City area of our district. Crews arrived to find heavy fire and an aggressive interior attack was quickly executed by the crews of 6-1501, 6-Tanker, and 6-75 with Chief Bowers as Command, Assistant Chief Ben-Jacob as Operations and Assistant Chief Boney coordinating the interior attack. Special thanks to New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 Spring Valley Hook&Ladder Co #1 and 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 for the mutual aid as well as Clarkstown Police Department and Nanuet Emergency Medical Service for support as well. Great job by all!

25 years later, we remember. 🇺🇸

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we honor the 2,977 lives lost, the countless families forever changed, and the brave first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away.

We also remember and honor Greg “Ski”Sikorsky, a member of Hillcrest Fire Co.1 who lost his life that day running up the stairs towards danger. Whose service and dedication to others represents the meaning of the fire service — courage, sacrifice, and a commitment to protect those around us.

Twenty-five years may have passed, but we will Never Forget.

We remember Greg.
We remember the 343.
We remember the 2,977.
And we will always remember September 11th. 🇺🇸🚒

Hillcrest members on 6-1501 operating at a vehicle fire on Byron street in the New City section earlier this week. 6-1501 crew operated and extenguished the fire quickly, while other Hillcrest units were responding to the other numerous calls at that time.

Last night, the Hillcrest Fire Company was invited by New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 along with Wayne Hose Co #1 Inc to participate in a water shuttle drill. This gave our new drivers the opportunity to drive and pump as well@as giving our newest members insight into a vital operation.

Over the past several weeks, the Hillcrest Fire Company has been conducting training on the grounds of former Champion Day Camp. This weekend, along with several of our mutual aid companies, we conducted two days of live fire training. Live burns at acquired structures don’t happen very often but the training and experience that firefighters gain from these types of training evolutions are invaluable!

The Hillcrest Fire Company did exceptionally well at today’s Port Jervis Parade bringing home 3 trophies! Best Appearing Apparatus Under 10 Years Old, Best Color Guard, and 2nd Best Appearing Company with Under 25 Members in the Line of March!
