๐๐งก GRAND OAKS ADVANCED ENGINEERING TAKES ON HOME DEPOT! ๐งก๐
The Grand Oaks Advanced Engineering Program conquered another successful engineering day at one of our favorite learning locations โ HOME DEPOT!
Each year, our Engineering II and III students step outside the classroom and into a real-world engineering environment to purchase materials and tools for their NASA HUNCH competition prototypes.
But this trip is much more than shopping.
Our future engineers are challenged to analyze, measure, compare, and make informed engineering decisions as they evaluate materials based on dimensions, weight, strength, durability, texture, flexibility, and overall performance. Students must consider how their selections could function in extreme environments and how their prototype designs may ultimately help improve the safety, efficiency, and daily lives of astronauts.
They compared materials, studied construction methods, calculated quantities, evaluated costs, and discussed how different design choices could affect the performance of their prototypes.
This is engineering in action โ taking research and ideas from the classroom and turning them into purposeful, testable solutions. ๐ ๏ธ๐๐
We are incredibly proud of our students for thinking like engineers, collaborating as teams, staying within their project budgets, and making thoughtful decisions about every material they selected.
Next stop: BUILD, TEST, IMPROVE, and PREPARE FOR NASA! ๐
๐Check out their Engineering Notebook Entries below for the next steps using their materials!
