Mission:
"To be a thriving church that reaches and build people to be Christ-like." Historic Washington Avenue Baptist Church is a progressive church that focuses on God through dynamic worship, relevant preaching, relevant teaching, and effective ministry. Our worship services are a blend of traditional, charismatic, and contemporary styles. The ultimate aim is that our diverse, intergenerational congregation, will have a profound encounter with God (in their own way) before they leave our public worship experiences. At Washington Avenue Baptist Church, “You Count and We Care.”

A MUSICAL LEGACY

As we prepare to celebrate 159 years as a church body, we are looking back at some of the Saints who carried us through.

There’s no doubt that music is a large part of our story. Take a look at this photo of the WABC Men’s Chorus from 1999. It was taken in Grand Prairie, Texas, and features Florence “Nightingale” Adams.

Due to our upcoming 159th Church Anniversary Celebration this weekend, the "Iron Sharpens Iron" men's fellowship will not meet this week. We will return in November.

Continue to pray in accordance with 1 Timothy 2:8: "Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing."

HAPPENING WEDNESDAY AT 6:30 P.M.

Dr. Horton will lead Wednesday Night Refreshing at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s topic will touch on the concept of “mirrors” and what it means to "Reflect God’s Image.”

Our key scripture is James 3:9
"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness."

This is our interactive Bible Study series on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, where we learn to practically apply the Scriptures to our lives.

Childcare will be provided.

CONGRATULATIONS, DEACON AND DEACONESS JAKAEL AND BRE’LYNN JACKSON!

Before a host of witnesses, and with the support of his wife, Bre'Lynn, Bro. Jakael Jackson received the mantle of Deacon of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.

During an intimate ceremony before our regular Sunday Worship Experience, both Jakael and Bre'Lynn were asked a number of questions by visiting pastors Willie Burkett (New Jerusalem Church of the Ozarks) and T'rey Walton (Covenant of Grace COGIC).

The Jacksons answered each question with thoughtfulness and clarity. Following a brief closed-door meeting of church leadership, Deacon Jackson was confirmed to the applause of close friends and family.

The Jacksons currently serve as teachers for our youth and young adults.
