DROP. COVER. HOLD ON.

Today is the Great ShakeOut, a reminder that earthquakes can happen when we least expect them, and knowing what to do can make a difference!

If you feel shaking:
⬇️ DROP to your hands and knees.
🙆🏼COVER your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk if possible.
✊ HOLD ON until the shaking stops.

Don’t run outside while the ground is shaking, and stay away from windows and heavy objects that could fall.

You don’t have to live in an earthquake-prone area to practice earthquake safety. Take a few minutes today to identify a safe place in your home or workplace and talk with your household about what to do.

🎲 Roll for impact… it’s time for an exercise!

What happens when you combine emergency management with a little Dungeons & Dragons?

A tabletop exercise that gets people thinking, collaborating, problem-solving, and maybe rolling a few dice along the way...

Big shoutout to the planning and design team for making a winter weather exercise fun and functional at the same time.

Springfield-Greene County OEM was proud to participate in this year’s annual Integrated Warning Team (IWT) Workshop at Lake of the Ozarks State Park.

This year’s workshop brought together emergency managers, National Weather Service personnel, public safety professionals, broadcasters, and other partners from across Missouri to strengthen the way we communicate before and during severe weather and other hazards.

OEM also led a breakout session focused on reaching vulnerable populations, exploring ways emergency managers and their partners can overcome barriers to receiving, understanding, and acting on warnings.

We’re grateful to be part of a statewide network working to make Missouri communities safer and better prepared. A big thank you to US National Weather Service Springfield Missouri and Missouri State Parks for hosting this event!

Halloween brings out trick-or-treaters, costume parties, and extra foot traffic across neighborhoods, making safety just as important as the candy haul. Nicolette Zangara from the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management sits down with Officer John Adamson from the Springfield, MO Police Department to break down simple ways to keep your family protected while enjoying spooky season.

Officer Adamson highlights practical precautions every parent, pedestrian, and driver should keep in mind. Learn why you should drive 5 to 10 mph slower through residential areas, how simple additions like glow sticks and mini flashlights keep dark costumes visible, and what older kids need to know before walking through neighborhoods on their own.

We’ve made some big additions to Tiny Town 👀

Rural Greene County makes up most of our acres, so we wanted to capture this landscape with rolling hills, forests, farms, and simpler living.

We’ll use this in exercises with our partners to simulate disaster response and recovery.

Here’s a sneak peek of what it looks like so far with hyper-realistic airplane noises included ✈️😉
