Yesterday, we were honored to attend a memorial recognition at Ferncliff Cemetery’s Veterans War Memorial Park in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and in honor and appreciation of all first responders.

We were humbled to stand alongside members of the Springfield Fire Rescue Division, Box 27 Associates, veterans of our community, and community supporters as we remembered all of the lives lost on that tragic day, including the first responders who answered the call, many of whom gave their lives in service to complete strangers.

The ceremony also paid special tribute to local first responders who are laid to rest at Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum. Among those recognized were two of our own, retired Springfield Police Chief Roger Evans and Officer Leroy Warren Jr. We were grateful to see their service to the Springfield Police Division, our nation, and our community remembered and honored as part of this meaningful tribute.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum and their entire team for hosting such a beautiful and meaningful ceremony and tribute. Thank you for creating a space for our community to come together, remember, reflect, and honor those whose lives and sacrifice must never be forgotten.

As local first responders, we also recognize the responsibility we carry forward from their example, to serve with courage, compassion, and purpose, and to carry the light of those we lost through the work we are entrusted to do each day.

May we always remember their lives. May we honor their sacrifice through our service.

May we never forget.
