Here are a few real comments about the news that thousands of Springfield, MA, residents have lost SNAP benefits.

Instead of questioning whether people deserve food assistance, why aren't we questioning the conditions that make it necessary?

Changes to eligibility and staffing shortages are making it harder for people to get help.

At Arise, we provide cash assistance directly to people. You can support our work here: bit.ly/arise-donation

Let’s continue the conversation in person at The Price We Pay on Friday, November 13!

See those laptops? They’re going from Springfield to a school in The Gambia, West Africa, this November! ❤️

Our friends at Springfield.community donated 5 refurbished laptops to Trashures: Turning Waste Into Worth, a program started by Johnie, our Homelessness Organizer!

Trashures keeps items people no longer use but that are still in good condition, like electronics, out of landfills by getting them to people who need them, including children and administrative staff at Hope Center Nursery School in The Gambia.

Springfield.community shares that philosophy! Since 2024, they’ve given our Springfield neighbors over 1,000 free refurnished computers each year, along with free digital skills classes!

So, if you've got a laptop or other electronics you no longer use, we’ll soon share how Springfield.community and Trashures can help them find a new home in Springfield and West Africa, too!

In the meantime, you can help Springfield.community keep offering free computers and classes to our neighbors by donating here: gofund.me/d66663ba5

🟥 Please share this information with renters and landlords!!!

We were talking with Springfield No One Leaves, and another question came up: if your eviction case was dismissed or you won, can a new landlord still see it?

Unfortunately, yes.

Maybe you went to court, won, and haven’t thought about it since.

BUT it can still be in public court records. A new landlord may see your name in an eviction case without checking whether it’s still open or how it ended.

We wanted to pass this along in case you’re looking for a new place, which is already stressful enough!

You can check your Housing Court record here:
bit.ly/CheckMyHousingRecord

And Springfield No One Leaves has a clinic coming up where you can find out whether you qualify to have that record sealed and get help with the process.

Thursday, November 5, 4 to 6:30 PM
Lilly Library Community Room
19 Meadow St., Florence, MA

Register: bit.ly/SealClinicNov

If something is more urgent, like your landlord telling you to leave or you’ve received confusing paperwork, talk to Liz at Arise. She can help you understand the process, know your rights, and prepare for conversations with your landlord!

We believe more people need to know that you can have an eviction record even if you’ve never actually been evicted!

For example, if you lived with your parents and they had an eviction case, your name could have been included even if you weren’t on the lease or responsible for rent.

And that record could affect you years later when you’re trying to find housing!

The good news is you can check your Housing Court record here: bit.ly/CheckMyHousingRecord

And if you do have a record, Springfield No One Leaves is hosting a free eviction record sealing clinic on November 5, from 4 to 6:30 PM, at Lilly Library in Florence.

Here’s the registration link: bit.ly/SealClinicNov

If you’re currently having issues with your landlord or worried about eviction, you can contact Liz at Arise at 413-734-4948 or [email protected].

Please share! You never know who might need this information.

Christopher Columbus doesn’t need more attention.

Today and always, we’re giving that attention to the Indigenous peoples who were here long before him and whose communities, cultures, and traditions continue to thrive today.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

Just thinking......
For the first time since WWII the US government/federal/military justice system is planning a Military ex*****on. By firing squad. The most jaw dropping aspect for me is now they want to livestream it.
Whether you are pro/con/somewhere in between the death penalty if they do actually stream the ex*****on.....
Are you going to watch? Why or why not?
Would you feel compelled to witness a historical milestone? Would it be to stand as a witness to an outrage? Would it be to witness justice for those he killed?

What do you think?

Reform? Revolution? Working within the system? Building power outside of it?

Arise and River Valley PSL are talking through what those differences actually mean, and what it could look like for everyday people to have more power over the decisions that shape their lives.
